Hi, before I contact Support direct, thought I'd post here to see if anyone can help. I'm concerned that my Dell laptop has a virus or has been attacked. This is a catalogue of events to date - sorry it's long, but it gives the full picture:
13/12/16 - last time I logged on successfully to Dell Inspiron – running Windows 7
17/12/16 couldn’t log on to Windows – message: username or password incorrect
Reset password successfully and accessed the laptop – I then removed the password completely in case I couldn't get back in when I logged off.
Tried to login to social media sites, email accounts, my Norton account and other websites requiring login details – message each time: username or password incorrect
I suspected a browser issue (I normally use Firefox) so I cleared the cache etc, but it didn’t fix the problem. I tried 2 alternative browsers, but the problem was still there.
Tried logging in to all of above via another device – I had no problem with access. I changed my Facebook password via the other device and tried to login to Facebook again via the Dell – same message as before: username or password incorrect
As I suspected a virus, I changed all passwords (via the other device) for sites I had tried to login to via the Dell.
I ran a Norton Full System Scan – results showed 2 low risk threats fixed
I tried again to login to a website via the Dell, but got the same message: username or password incorrect
I then ran Norton Power Eraser – results showed 1 file to be removed (it was removed) and 1 file fixed. (I also Googled the issue to see if it was common and checked here on the forum – but got no results to match my exact issue)
I tried again to login to a website via the Dell, but got the same message: username or password incorrect
I checked my Norton Recent History – there are a high number of ‘Unauthorized Access Blocked’ entries between 17/12/16 and 19/12/16 (i.e. since the problem started), but I don’t believe this is indicating an attack – am I correct?
HELP PLEASE! Do I have a virus, or is my Dell the issue?
Thanks
