I called Norton Support for some assistance and they remotely connected to my laptop to fix the problem. They used LogMeIn Rescue to remotely connect. Now it keeps popping up on my desktop. I close it and it turns right around and open again. I looked in my installed apps and it’s not there and it’s not in my Add/Remove programs. When I search for it and try to uninstall it from there it does nothing because it opens right back up. How do I remove this from my computer or make it stop loading up? It also is not in my “startup” area. Help. This is very annoying.
Hello @Corvan_Kelly

To stop the persistent LogMeIn Rescue pop-ups, you need to manually terminate its running service using the Command Prompt, as the applet can get “stuck” after a session and may not appear in standard uninstall lists.
Step 1: Stop the LogMeIn Rescue Service
- Open the Run dialog: Press the
Windowskey +Ron your keyboard. - Open Services: Type
services.mscand click OK. - Locate the service: In the Services window, find an entry referencing GoTo Rescue or LMI_Rescue_UA.
- Get the service name: Right-click the service and select Properties. Copy the exact Service name (it might be a long string of letters and numbers).
- Close Services.
Step 2: Delete the Service using Command Prompt
- Open Command Prompt as an administrator: Click the Windows Start menu, type
CMD, right-click on Command Prompt in the results, and select Run as administrator. - Run the delete command: In the Command Prompt window, type
sc deletefollowed by a space, and then paste the service name you copied earlier. The command should look like this:sc delete LMI_Rescue_UA(or whatever the exact service name was). - Confirm deletion: You should see a message that says
[SC] DeleteService SUCCESS. - Close Command Prompt.
Step 3: Delete Residual Files and Reboot
- Navigate to the AppData folder: Press
Windowskey +Ragain, type%LOCALAPPDATA%and click OK. - Delete the Rescue folder: In the folder that opens, look for a folder named GoTo Rescue Applet or similar, and delete it. (Note: The AppData folder is hidden by default, but using the
%LOCALAPPDATA%command makes it accessible). - Reboot your computer. This will complete the removal process and prevent the applet from launching again.
If the issue persists, you may need to perform additional manual cleanup of related files and registry entries, as detailed in the HelpWire guide on removing LogMeIn Rescue or the GoTo support guide on removing a stuck applet.
