Not really a major problem but an annoying one. After starting up Firefox, I have to restart it a second time for the logo to show up. Otherwise it stays blank. I've disabled all Firefox add-ons and the problem is still there.
I have the latest updates to Firefox and for NIS 2010.
What should I do to resolve this? It's really not a big enough issue to bug Tech Support about.
I've uninstalled NIS2010, used the tool to remove all Norton references and re-installed it. Wouldn't that be the same thing? Far easier for me to restore my NIS settings (which by the way is most annoying that there's no tool to preserve them for an upgrade) than to restore all of my Firefox settings, plugins, add-ons, etc.
I would still have to re-install NIS 2010 if I uninstalled and re-installed Firefox wouldn't I? To get the toolbar etc back into place?

Hi jbtran,
No, unfortunately, it isn't the same thing.
I understand that it is easier for you to remove NIS2010 than to remove and reinstall Firefox but I think a Firefox removal and reinstallation is more liklely to resolve the issue you are having.
You would not have to remove and reinstall NIS2010 afterwards.
I've uinstalled Firefox and re-installed it. No luck. I backed up my settings, etc with the FEBE plugin, uninstalled Firefox again this time also taking my saved settings, and then re-installed. No luck.
The only way I can get the logo to appear is to restart Firefox a number of times, usually it just takes 1 restart but sometimes it can take several restarts.
You could try disabling the Norton Toolbar (Tools > Add-ons), rebooting the computer and then re-enabling it. Sometimes turning a misbehaving program off and on will get it unstuck. If you click the spot where the logo should be, do you get the Toolbar menu as you would if the logo were present? I'm just curious because I have been having a Firefox issue where it forgets, or even uses the wrong icons for the sites I have showing on the Bookmarks Toolbar, but self-corrects when I click on the spot where the icon should be. I'm wondering if your issue might be a related case of Firefox forgetting what it is supposed to be doing in regards to the toolbars.
Besides SONAR problems, the only other issue I have is the logo not showing for the identity safe button. If I hover the mouse over it, the background colour appears but the logo does not. It does show if I click on it but if I release it or shift focus, it disappears again.
I have both unselected and disabled the toolbar and restarted Firefox to no avail. I have tried your suggestion of disabling, rebooting, restarting Firefox and re-enabling. The re-enabling is as if I was just starting Firefox: no logo. It's as if the image needs to be cached at a certain location before it can appear. Thought perhaps it might be a compatibility issue with some other plugin but disabling everything didn't make a difference.
There doesn't seem to be any change in functionality except that I have this large blank button sitting on the toolbar that only appears if I restart Firefox a second time.
1. Windows XP SP3 with latest updates as of Oct 21st. I am using NIS 2010 (had same problem with NIS 2010 Beta even after full uninstall and removal tool used)
2. Yes, I have the latest Firefox with all updates for NIS toolbar. With the NIS 2010 Beta, I downloaded and installed all appropriate hot fixes.
3. No I do not use any themes. Just default Firefox one.
4. My desktop settings have not changed from NIS 2009 through NIS 2010 Beta to NIS 2010. I am running on a 24"" Sony LCD monitor at 1900x1200 resolution with a refresh rate of 60Hz. I have full AA and anistropic enabled with vertical sync on. I am using a dual 4900 series ATI video cards in a Crossfire configuration which I recently upgraded to (no dual monitor setup) with the latest Catalyst drivers. The problem was there with my previous paired 4600 series video cards. I do have a couple of new desktop icons for things installed but other than that, no other desktop changes. My chipset is an Intel Quad Core I5-750 with 4 Gb DDR3 (actually I have 12 Gb as I do intend to upgrade to Win7 but XP only sees less than 4).
I'm a bit concerned at the fact that you had 2009 then 2010 Beta and now 2010 on your system. The beta was notorious at times for leaving things hanging over after uninstallation and since your issue is what was a classic problem on the beta release I think you should pull everything off and do a full reinstall if that's OK with you.
Dwoload the Norton Removal Tool from this location and save it to your desktop
Disconnect from the Internet (as you are now going to be unprotected for a little while)
Boot your machine into safe mode (pressing F8 at boot time) and run the Norton Removal Tool twice with a reboot after each time you run it.
Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data and delete the Norton and NortonInstaller folders.
Now reinstall NIS2010. The install should pick up your product key automatically but have it handy just in case. It will be in a .txt file in My Documents \Symantec or you can go to your Norton Account at www.mynortonaccount.com to get a copy. The installation process will require an internet connection at some stage and you should reconnect at that stage. After the install is complete please run liveupdate repeatedly until it tells you there are no more updates.
Please let us know if this corrects the issue you are having.
As indicated in previous posts, I had done a full re-install following a full uninstall and use of the removal tool. However, I can retry this with the latest tool as granted that the removal tool I had used may not have been current. I will let you know how it goes.

HI John
Thanks. Removal of the Norton folders appears not to have been done before and is important also.

mdturner,
Sorry, didn't work.
As per your instructions, downloaded the latest removal tool and NIS2010 from the links provided. Booted in safe mode, ran the tool twice. Deleted ALL Norton AND Symantec folders while still in safe mode, including the Quarantines and other protected subfolders. Searched all .DLLs, .SYS and any executable files in the Windows dir and Program Files Common folders for those created by Norton and Symantec (didn't find any). Installed NIS2010 and downloaded updates until I was told there was no more (only took 2 updates for that to happen).
As an addtion, I also uninstalled Firefox 3.5.3 and removed all add-ons, and re-installed with no plugins, helpers or toolbars save Norton. Rebooted for good measure.
Started up Firefox and problem was still there. I have to restart Firefox a 2nd time in order for the Norton logo to show on the Identity Safe button.
One thing I did note, this new NIS2010 is slower to start up than the last one, even though it is the same version (170.0.0.136). Not a lot slower but slower. Perhaps because it has to redo all of the remembered startup programs as the settings for those were removed.
Anyways, I have now endured several Firefox reconfigs and NIS installs and restoring of settings of both and I am no further ahead.
Given the amount of traffic regarding people with Firefox and NIS2010 issues, I guess I should count myself lucky that my only problem is an aesthetic one. So far, a missing logo seems to be just that as the Identity Safe looks to be still working.
Since I don't use that new Norton SafeSearch (I prefer WOT for Firefox site alerts), I could always switch back to using Roboform and therefore I would have no need of the Identity Safe and therefore the Norton toolbar. Then I can remove the toolbar and say good-bye to my problem. :)
