Looking for NIS 2009 Netbook Edition

Would anyone know where I can download the 2009 NIS Netbook Edition?

All I can find is the 2010 version and I'm looking for 2009.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Dave

Hi DaveH,

I only know that you can download NIS 2010 Netbook Edition (2009 is not compatible with Windows 7) from over here:

http://www.symantec.com/redirects/norton/norton_com/nisne10/

I'm not sure if there is still a link for the 2009 version. If you don't want to install 2010, then you can contact Symantec Customer Service at the link below; you can chat with them for free at this link (for US and Canada):

http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/contact/contact.jsp?pvid=cs

They might know if there is a link for the 2009 version.

I been looking for a couple hours.  :(

Maybe it was only availible on the retail flash drive?

I appreciate you trying to help.

Dave

Hi Dave,

Try contacting Customer Support (see my previous post) - they should be knowing if there's a link and if that's the case, where it is :-)

Thanks, but I'm chatting here for free too.

I undersand it's much quicker and I thought you guru's had a secret directory of links.

Well that didn't work :(

I went though a very long chat with customer service and didn't get anywhere.

I also asked for a trial of NAV 2010 Classic Edition.  The tech that was helping me didn't know what the Classic Version was he said I must be wanting the regular NAV.  I explained the difference in the versions and I got the impression he never herd about it.  Then he had to go and so some "research".

When he returns he says that I must be confused with my versions.  He says there is no such thing as NIS 2009 Netbook edition, it's only started with the 2010 version.  He also says that there is no such thing as NAV 2010 Classic Edition, it was only available in 2009 and offers me a link to those versions.

I try to explain to him that it's not me thats confused.

Later I send him the link to NAV 2010 Classic Edition and point out to him that it really is the 2010 version.

Then I send him a link to Amazon for the 2009 Netbook edition, it's out of stock but you can clearly see that it's the 2009 Netbook edition.

He has to do some more research and when he returns says that he can only give me downloads to the 2010 Netbook edition and the 2009 Classic edition.

Although he wasn't able to help me, because it took so long he offered to extend on of my keys an extra 30 days.

That was very nice of him but I found it a little odd trying to explain to a Symantec Rep what these products were, I could understand him not knowing about last years netbook edition but I can't understand him not knowing what the classic version is when it's currently on sale and supported.

Dave,

I've flagged your message for help from a Norton Staffer but I just did a global search of the forums on

NIS 2009 Netbook Edition

and

2009 Netbook Edition

and yours is the only message that comes up.

I don't remember one before 2010 which probably came out in September 2009 so maybe that is what you are thinking of and is the 2010 veersion.

I must also confess that I don't know what "NAV 2010 Classic Edition. " is -- could you explain what you mean by that description.

TIA

Dave I've just seen a message posted by Woody

Kudos to Symantec! You have gotten back my busines...

and the link he gives takes one to a Norton "Global Store" and you can't flip to US/Canada so perhaps this is not available here -- Maybe it's like the Windows 7 version they do for only certain markets and at a much lower price.

Oddly the box in the illustration does nopt seem to carry the word Classic ...

Here is the Norton AntiVirus 2010 Classic Edition

http://tinyurl.com/26abd2s

It's just the AV and much lighter on system resources.  It doesn't contain spywhere protection and I don't want to argue about it being not as "good" as the regular version but i'm sure it was made for a reason and there is enough demand to make it a seperate product.

I'm interested in it to see if It will be compatable with ZoneAlarm (firewall only).

NAV isn't for some reason, I'm also not to concerned about lack of spywhare protection, I got other programs for that.

Here is a link to a picture of NIS 2009 Netbook edition.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Norton-Internet-Security-Netbook-2009/dp/B002F9N8Y4

Although that link is for the UK and it's out of stock, I sent that to him so he could see the picture.

Dave

Thanks for the links -- the first is the one I went to and is "Global Store" whatever that is.

As for NIS 2009 Netbook -- there's a lot I don't remember. Someone from Norton woould hve to say if the 2009 is still available. Any particular reason to want it rather than 2010?

If that first lind doesn't work, it must be due to our locations being different or a cookie or ID reference in the link.

For me it goes to the product page of the classic version 2010 at the Symantec store.

As for why I wanted the netbook 2009 instead of the 2010 version, I really didn't want to get into a debate but I am much happier with the 2009 version of the regular NIS than 2010.  The 2010 version seemed too annoying to me, all the popups about doing background scans and so forth.

I know I can customise many parts of it but I just found it too annoying for my personal taste.  I rolled it back to the 2009 version and I'm much happier with it.  It was either that or go with another product.

But thats just my preference, I have used almost all of the products and I reccomend them to everyone but for my personal systems at the moment I'm much happier with NIS 2009.

Dave

It's your computer and your life so what you want is up to you!

Norton does listen and I gather from something Reese posted the other day that 2011, which is in public beta so you can try it if you want to, provides much more facility for the use to turn off functions like the popups.

Would anyone know where I can download the 2009 NIS Netbook Edition?

All I can find is the 2010 version and I'm looking for 2009.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
