I have been running Norton 360 for some time, and it worked well with all of my networked computers and printers. Must have received an update of some sort over the last week and have encountered a few connectivity problems as a result, I cannot seem to find a fix. I am listing the problems below:
1) Other computers on my network do not experience this first issue, but the main computer frequently loses connection with the internet. I run a diagnostic and the suggested fix takes me to the Intrusion Prevention Settings. Specifically, the diagnostic error message is reading "Communication blocked by the Norton Intrusion Prevention system. UDP communication with IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx for svchost.exe was blocked by a Norton Intrusion Prevention Autoblock". Not sure why this is suddenly happening but I am not familiar with how to fix this. The screens in this section are not very user-friendly so am not sure how to permit communication. I also prefer not to reset the firewall as over time I have managed to change settings (not exactly sure how) successfully in order to permit 2 way communication with printers, computers on my network as well as itunes homesharing.
2) perhaps as a result of #1, around the same time my HP all-in-one printer lost connectivity to the HP Solution Center software. this basically means that I can only do basic printing but have lost all other functionality. I tried reinstalling the drivers and software but 1/2 way through I get a fatal error and installation terminates. The reason it states is that Windows Firewall needs to be turned on in order to proceed. I try turning it on but I cannot seem to do so. I tried installing with Norton turned off as well but am having no luck. (running Windows 7 64 Bit)
Again, these are not due to new installations but just seemed to appear overnight. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks
Thanks -- checked all of the recommendations. Cannot seem to isolate in the log, and other settings are set to suggested. Still lose connectivity to internet. This is solved when I reboot the computer, but after a while I get the same issue?

On the face of it, it sounds like the affected computer may be under attack. The way the symptoms manifest, it might be something trying to get out, rather than something trying to get in--perhaps a trojan you picked up somehow. A useful crosscheck for Norton is the free version of malwarebytes (which doesn't do real-time scanning, and thus won't conflict with your Norton product). If you run it, let us know whether it finds anything.
OK...can't quite bring myself to say I'm sorry that you don't have malware but I am sorry we still don't have you on the road to a solution.
From your original description, I think I see several ways you might be able to fix this:
By enabling UDP communication for svchost.exe to that specific IP address (if only one, and always the same);
By blanket enabling UDP communication for svchost.exe to any IP address, if it's variable;
By blanket enabling UDP communication for any program to that specific IP address (again, if it's one, stable IP) and you trust it.
etc.
That's all assuming you currently have your Firewall set to use automatic program control, per delphinium's comment; it sounds from your response like you do (it's the suggested setting); if you actually don't, and have been trying to keep all your settings tweaked manually, try reactivating automatic program control.
CAUTION: there are risks involved in just opening your Firewall to a communication that we don't know why your Firewall is blocking. If svchost.exe has been infected, and there's a rootkit or other reason the scans aren't picking up on it, you'd be giving carte blanche to the nasty. It may be to your advantage to engage the helpful folks of Norton's Live Chat customer support to walk you through the steps and advise you on whether there's a safer way to clear this blockage.
