I'm installing Norton Internet Security 2011 to replace the sample NIS version that came with a new motherboard. The system is:
i5 2.8 quad
Asus Motherboard
4g PC1600
640gb Hd
Windows 7 x64
The system runs on a wireless router through a highspeed USB modem powered by Verizon/Alltel.
Yesterday I installed IS 2011 and immediately began getting messages on both IE8 and FF4 that the "server cannot be found." The system would start to work fine for ten minutes and then I would begin getting these blank screens and error messages again. Sometimes I could reach Yahoo, but I couldn't search for information, open email or click links without the system hanging up. If I repeatedly tried the same link, the connection would complete after 3 or 4 tries, but might still lock up if I tried to go any further.
This is not the only computer sharing this connection, so I checked the other computer and found things worked just fine. I turned Norton off on this computer and tried again but still had the problem. I decided there was a possibility that installing over a previous version might have cause an issue.
Today I uninstalled Norton, ran Malwarebytes Antimalware scan, ran ioBit Advanced System Care Pro, then reinstalled Norton from scratch. The system was fine and I was able to move around on the internet without any issues. All pages opened correctly and all subpages were also opening quickly.
Then I ran the Norton update. The problems with pages opening began immediately after the update completed. Flash graphics won't open. Many pictures are shown as X-boxes. I could open the front page of my college website, but I not any of the subpages without getting a blank screen that said the server cannot be found.
I just uninstalled Norton again and installed a competing product. The system is once again stable and seems to work just fine. Any ideas?
