Lost Identity Safe Password

Hi all

I just got back from a lengthy trip overseas and cannot remember my Identity Safe password!  I've got around 30 logins on there and really need some of them so can anyone suggest a solution for me?  I'm using Internet Security 2010.

Cheers

Hi,

unfortunately you have to remember to your password somehow.... :(

There's a tool with you can export the data to a csv file, which can be opened with Excel, or with Notepad as well.

Here are the steps to use it:

1. Navigate to the following folder: C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\Engine\17.x.x.(Where x is the version number.)

2. Double-click COExport.exe.

3. In the Export Identity Safe Data window, type in your Identity Safe password.

4. Click Browse.

5. In the Save As dialog box, select a location and filename. Click Save.

6. In the Export Identity Safe Data window, click OK.

7. After the profile is exported successfully, click OK.

8. Drag and drop the file into an opened blank Notepad window

If you write in the wrong password in, it's no problem, the tool will just be closed, and you can try with a new password.

Hi  maximmm,

Unfortunately, the procedure outlined by PapauZ will only work if your current subscription has expired.  While it is possible to reset your password, doing so will cause you to lose your stored data.  See the following thread for a discussion and instructions on how to reset the password:

Did you create a password hint when you set up Identity Safe?

I tried it today before posting with a live and running NIS.... The exe runs anytime.

PapauZ -

Was that v17 or v18 of NIS that you tested?

Sorry.. storno, it was NIS 18.0...

Symantec updated that tool as well to work other times too :)

Hi PapauZ

In NIS2010 (17.7.0.12) I get the following, which supports what SendOfJive has posted.

I do remember a discussion somewhere where Symantec had indicated this was going to be added to a future version of the product because many users had sent negative reports about this tool being limited to expired subscriptions.

I can't find the thread off hand but I do remember the discussion so I'm not at all surprised that this has changed in 2011 product.
