Hi Forum Members
My sad story starts a couple of days ago, 14th February to be precise, here we go:
1) I messed up my desktop when using "Peazip", anyway I decided to do a system restore from 12th Feb, no real problem until I noticed that my NIS2013 was no longer working and could not be fixed from within the program.
2) I selected "Help", top right hand corner of NIS2013's splash screen, and got Nathan, Norton's robotic helper, he suggested I download and run Norton's Remove and Reinstall (NRnR). So this is what I did until NRnR reported that I had to manually remove my Norton Utilities V15, which I eventually did. I went back to robotic Nathan who passed me onto two items I could download, Norton Utilities and/or Norton Ghost.
3) I downloaded NU, which is now version 16, and ran NRnR which, as it happens, removed my faulty NIS2013 but, after a restart, did not reinstall the software. I was temporarily shocked by this because I thought I had lost my NIS, especially as my subscription was still live.
4) I then went over to Norton's product website and downloaded the trial version of NIS2013 and installed it, I was once again surprised because it recognised that I still had a valid subscription, so all is well on the NIS2013 front (phew!).
5) I now installed the downloaded NU16, which did not recognise that I recently had NU15 and I note that if I want to buy this product, which I was told to remove it by a robot, I would have to pay £40.
6) What now bugs me is the unfair way I was forced into installing NU16, the price I will have to pay to keep it and like previous versions the NU's user manual is not available, and probably will not be available for another 6 - 12 months.
7) Why is there not a feature within NRnR which allows the user to choose what Norton product he or she wants to uninstall from the PC, in other words why is it all or nothing?

BTW, I managed to find the NU15 user manual download on a small (unconnected) Norton website.
