After years of successful operation of my Norton's , it suddenly disappeared from my computer 2 days ago. When I ask Norton's to look for it on my computer it says it is not installed. When I try to re-install, it says that it is already installed. It doesn't appear in my list of programs on Control Panel either. My account says I have over 260 days to go with the 360 program. Has anyone else had this and how did they fix it please. regards, Bill, Canberra Australia

Thanks Hugh for your reply. It was some part of my computer telling me that I had Norton's installed and then telling me that I didn't. I haven't spoken with Norton's. I'm using windows 7 and all updates have been done . My computer is 32 bit. . The copy of 360 premier is genuine and it was downloaded when it first come out. There were no changes made to my computer when I lost Norton's. My Norton's account shows that I bought the product and the problem is only when I start to download it again, my computer says that it is already installed. Hope this helps Hugh and thanks again.
Thanks for the details Bill,
I forgot to ask if you had any other security application on your computer before you installed N 360 and if so how did you uninstall it? This could be important since the normal Windows Uninstall can leave bits and pieces behind that interfere with subsequent installations and most security applications have special tools you can download to clean up -- we can give you links if you tell us what you had.
OH, was your N360 a 3 PC version or a 1 PC version?
If you have your N 360 Premier that you bought most recently listed in your MyNortonAccount I think I would try first the use of a newer Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool that you can get as below:
Here is a link to the new Norton Remove & Reinstall tool that, like the older Norton Removal Tool removes most Norton Products from your system, but the newer tool uninstalls the Norton products from your computer and reinstalls the latest version of your Norton security product.
If you already have the latest version of Norton AntiVirus, Norton Internet Security, or Norton 360, the Norton Remove & Reinstall tool reinstalls the same version of the Norton security product on your computer.
Note that it does not reinstall other Norton products you may have installed -- that you have to do manually and we can point you to the download point for the current versions.
This link Symantec Norton Removal Tool. will direct you to the older Symantec Norton Removal Tool which can be used if the newer Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool does not fix the problem.
Please let us know how you get on or if you have any queries ....
Thanks Hugh. I tried your option and I just kept getting an error message "Could not gather details about the installed layout or license. Click here for information on how to uninstall and reinstall your Norton product manually". Everytime I clicked "here", it just took me to the dowload page again and I just kept receiving the same error message. Sorry this is such a pain for us all. Are you able to come up with another solution please. Regards, Bill
hi
i got one
why not go back too one of your restore points and seee if you can go back too the day you 1st in stalled it
some in too try
Hi
If you're getting the error message while running the Remove & Reinstall Tool, can you try Hugh's suggestion of running the Norton Removal Tool?
Which of the two options did you try? Did you try the second of complete removal and then clean reinstallation. ?
Here's an indication how a NRT clean up can overcome an installation glitch like yours:
DON'T try a restore point without specific instructions from one of the experienced users here since here's a risk of making things worse if Norton is involved.
Strange this may sound, but suddenly the computer itself ask me to install Norton's and I did that and now everything is working. I can't explain it, but I did everything that was suggested by you Hugh, so that must be the reason I have now had success. Many thanks anyway for your time and effort. Bill Y.

Glad it worked itself out .... it must be frightened by the soon to come release of Norton 360 V6!!!! Did you check the Verson ID in Support / About ? <g>
Seriously -- it would help us to know which of the two options you did to remove N 360 -- Option 1 with tne NRnR Tool or Option 2 with the NRT ..... or both?
As best as I can tell, I would say option 1. As I tried everything suggested, that is the best I can guess i"m afraid. What I have now is version 5.2.0.13. Thanks again, Bill
Thanks Bill,
Now enjoy safe computing ....
Well, it's even nice to have the Ïdentity Safe"back again. I miss the little things. Thanks again.
