I upgraded to NAV09 and now the system tray icons are gon including the things that are normally loaded on start up.
Things I've done:
When I first installed 09 I used the setup program that removed 08 then installed 09. Thats when the problem started.
I then downloaded and used Norton removal tool, rebooted a used the removal tool a second time,re booted and just for the heck with it I did it a third time.
Next I downloaded and ran Symantic Registry Repair tool.
Then I defragged the file system.
Note: I rebooted after each step.
I then re-installed NAV09. Still no system tray icons except for the norton icon.
I have exactly the same problem if I log in before the computer has finished loading it’s processes. Hence I have to wait until this happens (Like 5 mins) so it will start up properly. I don’t know what causes it though, but I would like a solution! It’s been going on for about 1 year now.
Have you got youyr settings on early load? I run NIS rather than NAV, but I had to take early load off so that my printer control centre and Linkscanner could open. No issues since.
Phill- at your suggestion, I right clicked and customize notifications. All the items were set to "hide when inactive" I changed the ones I wanted to "always show". I then rebooted and still no dice.
I rechecked the icon ststus as above and nothing changed and still no icons.
Kremmen- I'm afraid that patience is not the answer this time. This AM I turned on my computer, had a cup of coffee and went and took a shower and still the only icon that shows up is the NAV09.
Did you able to get the system tray icons back after you uninstalled NAV 2009 using Norton removal tool?
Try these steps(Backup the registry before doing so) and let us know the results:
1. Click Start > Run. 2. Type regedit, and press Enter to open the Registry Editor. 3. Navigate to and select the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify
4. Delete both IconStreams and PastIconStream in the right pane. 5. Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete and select Task Manager. 6. Select the Processes tab, choose explorer.exe, and click End Process. 7. Choose the Applications tab, click New Task, enter explorer.exe in the text box, and press Enter.
In addition to what Yogesh suggested, try the following steps.
1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Manage. 2. Click Services and Applications
. 3. Double-click Services. 4. In the Services list, right-click SSDP Discovery Service, and then click Properties. 5. On the General tab, in the Startup type drop-down list, click Disabled. 6. Click OK.
