Macintosh issues with Norton Online Family

1- Running Mac OS Lion 7.0.1 on all machines MacPro2, iMac, MacBook Pro

2- Web browsers are Safari 5.1 and Firefox 6.02

3- User accounts for my 4 children are all Standard

4- Norton Safety Minder 2.1

The only reporting that works is Login and Log out.

Web Activity, Search Activity, etc. do not report under the tabs. I have EVERYTHING turned on for reporting.

5 user accounts and all behave the same.

Hi jadcock,

The Mac team for Norton Online Family is currently working on an update which will be compatible with Mac OS Lion and

Firefox 6.

Thanks,

Katie

I have the same issue, Norton is showing the times they logged in and out, but under "web" it is saying "no activity".  I have a Mac, but I still use Snow Leopard Version 10.6.8.  I have not upgraded to Lion.

spent hours on with the Symantec CHAT support team. Nothing works.

If the application does not work can I get a refund on my subscription?

I am paying for something that does not work.

Hi jadcock,

We are currently working on an update which will be released very soon and it will be compatible with Mac OS Lion and Firefox 6.

Thanks,

Katie

Hi msrearick,

Have you ever seen any logs for Web activity at all since installing Norton Safety Minder on the Mac?

Do you  have the Web supervision turned on at Settings -> Web?

Thanks,

Katie

Will this release also support Safari 5.1?

Hi Sunchaser,

Thanks for the inquiry.  The upcoming update unfortunately won't be supporting Safari 5.1.  Our Mac team is working on the compatibility issue for future release (after the upcoming release).

Thanks,

Katie

I have spent 10+ hours with support chat and support phone.

They can not even get this product to work on any of my Macs?

Will it just not work on Macs right now?

This would be nice to know if I am WASTING my time.

I tried creating a new account today and still does not work.

The support for this product is REALLY lacking!

Hi jadcock,

You have Mac OS Lion.   The program is not compatible with Mac Lion in the current version.  The Mac team for Norton Online Family is currently working on an update which will be compatible with Mac OS Lion and release it very soon.

Thanks,

Katie

I am running Mac OS X 10.6.8. Safari 5.1.1

I also see login/logoff for my daughter, but no web activity. I am able to go directly to playboy.com from her login id. It appears that neither web tracking nor web blocking is working.

Hi mickmurphy,

Mac version of Norton Safety Minder supports the following browsers on Mac OS X.  The team is working on the feature to be compatible with Safari 5.1.

  • Safari 3.x through 5.0
  • Firefox 3.x or later

Thanks,

Katie

Let's bump this back to the top. The download page says that 2.2.x was to be released by 12/31/2011 but I see no link to download it. When can we expect this to be released? I'd like to continue using this service, but if it remains incompatible with Lion for much longer I'll be forced to go to another.

Same problem here. I left SafeEyes for Norton, but have been sorely disappointed by the lack of Mac updates and iPod/Touch/iPhone/iPad protection.

When will this be fixed?

Hi mspeer1972,

The latest Mac version of Norton Safety Minder is compatible with Mac Lion.  Please download the latest version by clicking on the “Download Norton Safety Minder” link at NOF main page https://onlinefamily.norton.com/familysafety/loginStart.fs

Please send me the link to the page where it says 2.2.X was to be released, but you didn't see the link to download, and we will check into this.

Thanks,

Katie

Hi slytle,

The latest Mac update for Norton Safety Minder is compatible with Lion.  Please read my post above for details.

For the iOS4 devices, please check out the link below for details.

Thanks,

Ah, I got it. The page I was referring to is https://onlinefamily.norton.com/familysafety/help.fs?action=sysRequirements. It wasn't clear that the 2.2.x was currently available. Anyway, it turns out my problem was the version of Safari. Is there a target date for a release that will support the latest Safari update? I hate to bounce my kids from browser to browser and I want the latest versions of Safari for security updates.

And thanks for the quick response!

Mike

Hi Katie,

The page I saw was:

https://onlinefamily.norton.com/familysafety/help.fs?action=sysRequirements#macSysReq

Where it says "If you use Mac OS X 10.7, you must use Norton Safety Minder for Mac V2.2.x. This version of Norton Safety Minder for Mac will be available by Dec 31, 2011."

The new file I downloaded says it's "NortonSafetMinder7.dmg."

I have installed it, but it just doesn't block or monitor internet content. I'm running Mac OSX 10.7.2 with Safari 5.1.2 and Firefox 9.01. Neither one seems to work.

Regarding the iOS software, it's great that I can look at settings, but I need a way to control internet access for my children using these devices. The battle has moved from the PC to the mobile device and Apple nor Norton are stepping up to the plate to help protect our children.

Thanks Katie.

slytle,

I'm running firefox 9.0.1 as well now and it is reporting my activity. You do apparently need to have the Norton Safety Minder for Firefox addon installed in firefox. Firefox presented me with a popup asking if I wanted to install it after installing safety minder and opening firefox.
