Macintosh issues with Norton Online Family

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the reply.  The Mac team for Norton Online Family is currently working on the feature to be compatible with Safari 5.1 and beyond, but I"m sorry we don't have a release date yet.  When I have any update on this, I'll post it here.

Thanks,

Katie

HI slytle,

Let's first make sure you have the correct version of Norton Safety Minder installed on the Mac by the followings:

Click on Norton icon on the menu bar

Select Norton Safety Minder

Select Edit Accounts

You will see the version # of Norton Safety Minder installed on the Mac as Norton Safety Minder ver. 2.xxxxxx

We are working on the features to monitor activities on iOS devices.  They are going to be available in the future releases.

Thanks,

Katie

Hi Katie,

I followed Mike's advice and Norton Safety Minder now works with Firefox. I'm not sure why that did not automatically load when I installed the new version.

BTW, I am running 2.2.3f9.

Thanks for the iOS update. Filtering for these devices can't come quick enough.

Thanks

Great.  Thanks for the update.

You have the latest Norton Safety Minder for Mac, which is compatible with Lion.

Thanks,

Katie

Hi,

I did download from NOF main page, as KatieQ suggested, but the only version I get is "Norton Safety Minder 6.dmg", which after live-updates gets to v2.1.5f100.

Maybe some malformed useragent detection on that page leads to wrong file download...

I can't find "Norton Safety Minder 7.dmg" which would bring me to 2.2.3f9: can you please provide a complete URL specifically pointing to the actual file to download.

Thanks.

Ok,

I could make-up the URL, based on Norton Safety Minder 6 file I got, and could download Norton Safety Minder7.dmg from here.

The Installer app show v2.2.1r6 in Finder info.

When I install it, Installer refuses to select my volume because Mac OS 10.5 is required!

I'm running 10.6.8, and tested it on several machines...

Please, can we have an easy access to a working version?

Thanks.

Hi macmpi,

When you click on the download link on the main page, it downloads the correct version of Norton Safety Minder to your Mac.  The 2.2.xxx version is for Mac OS Lion.  For your OS 10.6, The NSM version 2.1.xxx is fine.

Please uninstall the Norton Safety Minder from your Mac and reinstall Norton Safety Minder from the Download link on the NOF main page.

Thanks,

Katie

Thanks Katie,

However NSM version 2.1.xxx on 10.6 does not work with relatively recent versions of Firefox (v8, v9), therefore it does not offer any protection at all.

How is that v2.2.xxx is for Lion (10.7), and while I try to install it says it requires 10.5?

Thanks.

macmpi,

Norton Safety Minder 2.1.xxx should support Firefox 8 and Safari 3.x through 5.0.

What happens when using Firefox 8?

Thanks,

Katie

Hi Katie,

Thanks for your answer.

It seems the firefox plugin got desactivaded within Firefox 8.0.1 some way...

After some tinkering managed to get it back, and it seems to work now.

Now, I'd like to move to FF 9: is it supported by NOF under 10.6.8?

Thanks.

Hi macmpi,

I'll check into this and get back to you.

Thanks,

Katie

Hi macmpi,

The latest Norton Safety Minder for Mac supports FF 9.

Thanks,

Katie

Thanks Kathie,

This mean NOF version that is 10.6 compatible does NOT support FF9, right ?

Thanks.

macmpi,

No.  The lastest Norton Safety MInder (Make sure you download it from the NOF website) for Mac supports FF9.

Thanks,

Katie

Hello,

I recently purchased the premium Norton Online Family service. It seems to work great with FF 9 now on the mac, but Safari is not working on Lion. I even downgraded to 5.0.5, 5.0.4, 5.0.2, and even 4.0.5, none of these Safari versions work with Norton Safety Minder (newest version), I even reinstalled it, still nothing. When is 5.1 finally getting integrated? Safari 5.1 and Lion have been available for 6 months now, so if the kids use Safari there is no tracking/blocking or anything, even when I downgraded to a version that supposidly is supported.

How different from 5.0 can it be that it would take half a year? Is there any estimation of when the update will be released?

Thank you

Hi rexexdesign,

Thanks for the inquiry.  The latest Norton Safety Minder 2.2 for Mac Lion supports the latest Firefox, not yet for Safari.  The team is currently working diligently to make them compatible.

There is a very significant difference in architecture between Safari 5.1 and 5.0.  The Mac team has been working very hard to support it.  We appreciate your patience while we are working on it to make it happen.  When the update is available, we will definitely release the news in the forum.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

Thanks,

Katie

For some reason, I can't get NOF to work on my Mac to block ANY sites on FireFox 9, although it appears to be working for others.  It works great on my Windows 7 machine, but not my Mac.  I uninstalled and reinstalled Safety Minder on my Mac - now running version 2.2 (16) as of today - and it still won't work.  Since I couldn't get it to work with FireFox 9, I let FireFox update to version 10, and it still won't work.  Is SafetyMinder supposed to be able to work with FF 10?

BTW, I had Online Family working great with my Mac quite a while back, but was shocked to learn that, after I upgraded to latest versions of MacOS and Safari, that Online Family was no longer working. I have no idea how long my kids had unrestricted access to the internet!  It would be nice if Norton would send an email alert when it stops working on the latest versions of common browsers.  This has become very problematic that it is no longer working on Safari or FireFox on my Mac, which is a shame because I love this service (when it works!).  You guys really need to increase the support and development on the Mac platform so that it works as well as the Windows platform.

Okay, just spent an infuriating few hours trying to get to the bottom of this one but I need help. All working fine on my PC, just trying to get NOF working on my wife's MAC but it lets my kids accounts access everything and isn't blocking anything.

MAC 10.6.8

Norton Safety Minder 2.1.6f102

Safari 5.1.2

Is there anything I can do to make this work or do I have to look for something else?

Hi dastewart,

Norton Safety Minder 2.1.xxx supports Safari 3.x through 5.0.  We are currently working on the compatibility issue with Safari 5.1

Please use Firefox to make it work for now.

Thanks,

Katie

Thanks for the reply.

I downloaded Firefox but that doesn't work either.  It's version 10 that I've downloaded (the latest one) but reading back through this thread I think you're going to tell me that safety minder doesn't work for that version.

Can you give me some idea of when safety minder will support the current version of a browser?  Or perhaps I should ask how many months behind a new browser release you expect to have a working version of safety minder because if you're always going to be 2 or 3 months behind then you'll never catch up.
