Hi, all. I think I should suggest to newbies, regulars and Gurus, that if anyone has a malware problem, that we sit back, shut up, and let Quads do his thing. If anyone gets so far and Quads bails, they will be in bigger trouble than before. Best we let him pick up, from the get go...... Happy New Year to all.
Wrong board for this thread
Quads
Quads wrote Wrong board for this thread.
Not if this is where newbies come first, sir.....
Yes it is the wrong board as it is not to do with the NIS / NAV product.
Thread belongs in the Forum Feedback or Clubhouse board.
It is that simple
Quads
Thanks, Quads. I'll keep to myself in future....Just though it might help newbie Norton users who need help.
Now posted in Forum Feedback.
This board reads, "Norton Internet Security / Norton AntiVirus"
Your thread is not a problem with NIS / NAV or Malware on the system with NAV / NIS installed, or info about NIS / NAV so by the way the forum is set up your thread does not belong here.
Quads
Thank you, Quads. I appreciate your correcting me.
The thread has been moved here by the Mods, (to the correct board)

I Will not carry on with a Malware thread where a user or users, have posted after me or posted giving suggestions, use this use that.
Malware Removal boards found this out and have stipped this happening by having the board designed so a standard user (not MRT, Admin or mod) cannot post a smessage appears stating basically you are not authorised..............." That stops threads being hijacked or contaminated by the untrained.
If that makes me look strict, tough, arrogant, so be it, I call a spade a spade, say it as it is. Better than looking stupid, dumb and dangerous, with hurting peoples systems.
Users are tough on the likes of Symantec (AV companies) and malware removers like myself for not getting things right or hurting systems, which should be the way if we get things wrong, I am tough on myself to work malware and Windows problems out also, And I bet Symantec and SSR are the same to themselves also.
It takes a fair bit to keep up with new changes in malware, but we have to, otherwise malware creators have won.
When spotted someone is trying and failing to do what we do (and not realising most of the time) expect to be told so before the system is hurt, changed to much, or loading of conflicting programs etc.

Quads,
If you will, please provide me with some helpful hints on how best to stay out of your way and how not to prevent a user from getting the help they need. I have proven that I am not skilled in identifying problems that I cannot solve and I have proven that I can get in the way. It's a new year and I would like to try for a fresh start.
I am by nature a servant, which means that my desire is to help. I'm here to try and do just that. With some direction from you perhaps I can do that better.
Thank you

Kudos to Dick Evans

It helps if users can read and understand:
Read all instructions properly
Please do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.
- We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Do as the instructions ask nothing extra or run things twice
- If I ask a Question just answer it, don't run anything unless it states.
- Major steps used:
1. Find
2. Break
3. Destroy
4. Cleanup (including system as a whole)
Users that run or try and run tools, with scriptsat times by themselves ending up with a non booting Windows or other problems after find out the hard way, then they realise.
The Message above is mostly standard within malware removal, I added the likes of "Major steps used............ So hopefully users understand, then recently the Read Properly big and blue.
Even the likes of Bleeping PC drop users for not following or going on their own.
Quads
Thank you
May I have permission to post the 'read all instructions properly' as a response to user messages which;
indicate a problem
and
where you have not made any comment?
Again thank you
You can do what you like, but I will state here that, another user does not have my permission as if you think about it look at the message.
Tools used, step 1, 2, 3 etc. Any user......................................................
So you are going to script and use advanced tools now so the warning and info post is valid for your malware removal threads you have?? using MBAM and SAS.
See here http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic480676.html looks like Bleeping PC are having users like me, think they know what they are doing with the tools.
I can see an argument starting on that thread.

Quads,
Perhaps you could agree to a simple form of wording that we gurus can post to try to stop people like DT88 from doing what he has just done although I don't hold out much hope for controlling him.
What you and Dick are discussing goes beyond what I would want to say which would be more like telling the OP to wait to see if you can help (which has been done in the past) but also sternly requesting others not to post anything and explaining how you need to start from a known baseline ?
Crazy Cymru ....

When and if you are able to provide the quality of assistance in the quantity that is being provided by volunteer/user Quads there may be a reason for reading and considering your messages. Currently you provide nothing of substance and do create more confusion than order.
A free word, most words are free.
I would say users here don't know their limits, which causes danger for a users system, I may be in DT88's eyes 3 years old, Wow malware can't beat a 3 year old, that is just clever.
Wait until Bleeping Computer, other malware removalists, Symantec and SSR hear that they get help from a 3 year old with malware.
I will not carry on in a thread where a user has stepped in, especially a long time member, may be different if the post is from a user with only a handful of posts, oh newbe.
On the likes of Bleeping Computer if a MR goes on holiday, is sick in hospital, etc the only one that can take over (arranged) is another MR.
Hey DT88, You can help Symantec with the likes of TDL4, Zeroaccess, Pihar and MaxSS, with samples and data. Good Luck.
