My Win Vista (ver 6.0, build 6002, SP2) PC was recently attacked by malware thru MSIE browser with active Norton Security Center ver 4.2.0.12 thru my Comcast ISP. This resulted in very slow cpu response and no internet connection which is normally thru a wireless PCI bd. I booted from BartPE prebuilder CD which I've used successfully before, and ran latest McAfee stinger.exe which came up clean. I then booted from WinVista CD and did a system restore to a date before virus attack. That was successful, and PC booted up fine with normal cpu response but still no internet. The BIG ISSUE now is that my former admin login account type has been changed to standard user which is preventing me from making any system changes. My Norton security center cannot get updates due to no internet, and it fails when I try to run a scan skipping the update option.
I tried to reset the winsock but that failed as shown below:
C:\>netsh winsock reset
The requested operation requires elevation.
I'm using a backup PC to service the infected one. Please help my PC is useless w/o internet.
Thanks,
Wazoomr
