I have Norton Internet Security installed and when I scan my computer no problems are found. However when I access the internet I was constantly directed to a site called 2beinhome.com which I believe is malware. This stopped happening (don't know why) and was replaced by chitka pop-up which a google search tells me is also malware. How can I get rid of this safely and why does Norton not prevent this? Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thank you
It would be useful to know what program was running at the time. Task manager will let you see what process is hogging the resources. Is everything back to normal now?
1) After startup and before entering my password, the mouse didn't move the arrow. I went into Safe Mode and it worked. So, I restarted the computer and the mouse worked. (This may or may not be malware.)
2) I encrypted a document with a password. When I tried to open the doc with the password, it didn't recognize it. (Thankfully I have a backup copy.)
3) This is the one that's weird. I got a pop-up notice from Norton that my CPU and Disk are using a massive amount of space, etc. (66%)
Can you tell me what malware would cause these symptoms? Especially 3) above. Checked the Task Manager, Resource Monitor, Networking, Disk, Memory, etc. and it is busy with tons of stuff going on.
HitmanPro by Sophos give a speedy and targeted malware scanning, and it can run together with other antivirus software. The US vendor also titles to be relating certain “behavior-based techniques”, unlike virus signatures in usual tools that aid recognizes brand new malware files even in case they look innocent. Another best thing about this software is that it has signals in big red interface color if it finds out any problem.
You can also save log feature and database of threats plus cloud technology scanning is also being offered here. Thank you for your response. I will contact my carrier about this issue and I am reading the link you provided. I uninstalled the Norton Mobile Security app and then I reinstalled it. After that I ran the malware scan and it came up "No malware detected." I assume this means I do not have any malware, if I ever did. The phone has continuously worked well.
Who is your cell carrier? It is possible there is something the carrier has added to the phone.
There is a thread in the Malwarebytes forum commenting on cheaper phones and tablets coming from China with trojans in the firmware. See here https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/168824-malware-found-android-trojan-dropper-cant-be-removed/#comment-965747
Maybe contact the seller of your phone and see if they have any information on this.
My device is a UNIMAX U673C and the Android version is 6.0.1. I did go to the Settings and then I tapped Apps. I did not see the Wireless Update app. I still have the same message about malware, however.
What device are you using and what Android version?
Check your Android Settings - Apps and see if you can see that Wireless UPdate app? If you do, then your attempts you mentioned to remove it, did not succeed. Probably because it is a system app.
It might be worth trying to contact support again. Try a different time of day. I usually find mid to late evening, EST is a good time with shorter or no wait times.
