Just ran a MalwareBytes scan, and it found a Trojan Agent in a registry key. It quarantined the file, it says HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run.
Computer was behaving normally, I was just running my typical weekly scan. Do I need to do anything else?
When Malwarebytes' detects only a registry key, without associated file infections, it usually means that Malwarebytes' has found an orphaned remnant from a previously removed threat. When an antivirus program removes an infection, some registry keys are sometimes left behind intentionally in order to prevent reinfection, or for other reasons. Malwarebytes' will dutifully report any of these that it finds, even though the actual threat may have long since been removed. I would not be too concerned about a single registry key if your PC is running normally and other scans, such as Norton's, are clean.
I'd keep it around in Quarantine. It's not going to go anywhere or do anything, and if you should find that removing it has broken something you will still have it handy. In fact, this reminded me that I have two similar Trojan Agent registry keys sitting in my MBAM quarantine from several months ago. Out of sight, out of mind.
