Malwarebytes possible conflict?

<<No single security solution can catch 100% of malware 100% of the time.>>

For sure, you are right, peterweb. That's why I tried Kaspersky Security Scan

<<  Honestly, and I say this with the most respect possible to the folks at Norton, Malwarebytes has been a necessary side-car to Norton for me for some time now.  Malwarebytes honestly found things that Norton could not,   >>

I think most of us would agree with you and it is no disrespect to Norton.

The way I look at it they are specialized tools and MWB in its non-interactive version is tuned to detect malware that had already arrived and runs under relatively stable conditions in that most of us would let it run under idle and not continue to go out on the internet etc.

Norton can let malware through either because it was new enough or clever enough to find a hole OR because the user unwittingly invited it in by clicking on something they thought harmless, like No Thanks, and finding that triggered the invasion. But on the whole it does a first class job for ordinary situations.

I unistalled MalwareBytes after getting a warning, but did a clean re-install and so far, Norton has not re-flagged it. If it does, then I'll just ignore it. I am only using the free version, as a passive scanner....  :smileyfrustrated:

I think this is what causing my computer to crash for several times this week aready. And I noticed that this happens after I upgraded to NIS 2013 where they say in advance that they are incompatible with Malwarebytes.

What I experienced is that when I turned on my computer, it will boot to Windows, but then stopped after loading Malwarebytes (usually located in my systray) and nothing else happened after that. Try clicking everything doesn't work, my mouse pointer just keeps showing busy sign (circling around). Usually in my systray I have Malwarebytes, volume icon, Norton icon, and internet icon.

Since I can't do anything (Ctrl + Alt + Del doesn't work) I have to turned it off by pressing the power button quite long

Today I decided to uninstall Malwarebytes. It's a hard choice, but it's either that or I will be damaging my laptop by forcing it to turn off.

I hope Norton will find a workaround after this. I will monitor my laptop performance to make sure it is the incompatible between NIS 2013 and Malwarebytes that causes my laptop to crash.

FYI, I'm using Win 7 64 bit (not yet SP 1), MBAM pro, NIS 2013

@ miss_pinky (possible Zappa reference there?) I'm also using W7 Ultimate 64 and never got a crash with MB. All that ever comes up is that warning and that's irregular. In fact, it's been weeks since I saw it last and MB Pro is installed, has been installed, and does a scan every Sunday which runs fine. I don't think anybody in this or other threads related to this topic have reported crashes.

If you are familiar, even remotely, with Administrative Tools there's an Event Viewer within it that will show errors which can sometimes point you toward the real culprit. It's easy to find in Control Panel. Also, down by the clock in the task bar is a small flag icon that says "Solve PC Issues" if you hover you mouse pointer over it that is of some help. I have little luck with the solutions from that actually fixing anything but it gives me a direction to go in.

One thing my experience with Windows 7 has taught me is that it's important to install programs with the 'run as administrator' command from the right click menu. Some programs don't care and install and run fine without doing that, others won't install at all, others appear to install but don't run correctly when launched if I don't do the 'run as administrator' thing..

@ miss_p1nky

You really NEED to install SP1 (Service Pack 1) on your computer.

Those updates help keep your cpu/laptop in shape and also potentially prevents you from getting the stuff that you do not want such as viruses, etc.

Just a friendly reminder.

@ F4E

Did what you did... that would be a no go for me.

I am not sure how you managed to survive the error so far... I dunno... can it be that you can juggle in your spare time?...lol   jugglingact2do.gif

Did you try clicking on "Support" within your Norton product?  Try it now and see what you get.  I am still getting the AutoFix error.

Hey fryer, yes if I hit support I get the error message, but I'm not getting any popups, so I'm ignoring it...:smileyhappy:

Well since Norton has thusfar failed to properly acknowledge this problem in the form of issuing a patch and admitting their error I must continue with the pile-on:

I (like other Norton subscribers) have (and will continue to do so) used Malwarebytes in conjunction with Norton. Been using both for years. Apparently Norton now feels threatened by Malwarebytes to the point of issuing in their recent update that anyone using Malarebytes will NOT be able to also use Norton and request that we THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE PAID OUR HARD EARNED MONEY FOR THEIR SECURITY AND ANTI-VIRUS PROGRAM delete Malwarebytes if we want to continue the benefits of Norton's service...THAT WE ALREADY PAID FOR!

In other words, users of Malwarebytes are being **bleep**-slapped by a jealous Norton who holds our security and anti-virus program hostage until we delete Malwarebytes! Are we going to stand for this bull**bleep**? Sounds to me like Norton owes me for the FULL cost of purchase of their program and than I can move on to a FAR better program that 'plays nice' with Malwarebytes...namely Kaspersky.

What's it gonna be Norton? It's been long enough! It's time to **bleep** or get off the pot...and cut me a check!

It is not an error in terms of How it looks for Conflicting proucts on the system and how Malwarebytes is installed on the system (no matter what version).

Looks like you're running Norton Security Suite, which is provided free to Comcast subscribers.

Haha, nice one !  Ftr, I've had the MBytes popup appear several times now. I'm ignoring it, and still using MBytes as a passive scanner.....:smileyhappy:

I am also ignoring the popup and have had no problems with both programs installed.  I see it as a sort of "false positive."

Not sure why so many users are making a big deal out of it.:smileyindifferent:

WOW! Dreams really do come true...  I woke up this morning and happened to read the Malwarebytes post in my inbox and checked my Norton 360 premiere and found the version of Norton 360 Premiere Edition 2013 was automatically changed to 20.4.0.40. Shocked Shaking Head.gif Reaaaallllly???

Thennnnnnn..... I clicked on Support > Get Support and I didn't even see a peep of a blip.... noise or anything about any conflict with MBAM.  And heyyyy!  No more of this:  bangpc.gif

Or this..... croc.gif

I could not even be more happy.  Due to the big stink that everyone raised... Symantec listened (for once...lol.....jusssss kiddin') and fixed the problem.

Thank you so very much to all of the staff at Symantec and Malwarebytes,  A special thank you and shot goes out to Tony Weiss  Thank you very very much for everything.  It is more than appreciated than you know. Big Grin.gif
