Ps: I think the settings on norton were changed when this started happening.  What is the defalt setting of "Virus and Sypware protection Settings"?

Thanks.

Some problems can only be fixed by user intervention. You should post your operating system e.g. winxp SP3, and the version of Norton 360 (goto main windows, help & Support, about, version).

The popup should give a link for the details. What happens when you click the link. You do not say what virus or threat is found, we need this.

When you say you did scan in safe mode, what scan did you use Norton 360? I did not think worked in safe mode.

Goto start button, and run command windows and run "mrt".

For settings, you should tick all Threat categories and in Automatic protection settings, you should tick

Turn on autoprotect

Turno on sonar

Turn on suspicious activity monitoring

Turn on email check

Automatically remove

When I click the link, it says the threat has been fixed, but it comes back when I am connected to the internet again.  The threat is listed as a "tracking cookie"

Sorry, I used sypsweeper

There is a last box to check called "scan and repair tracking cookies"   Is this checked in defalt settings?

WGoto to control panel, classic view, system, general tab and provide everything listed under system.

You are using version 1, there is a free upgrade to version 2.

Tracking cookies are picked up when you visit sites on the internet. If you keep going to the same site, you probably will get the tracking cookie again. It should not be serious.  You should ensure that your setting is  "automatically remove". There is a bug in the program if trying to exclude or fix tracking cookies if you set settings to "Exclude" or "ignore".

When you get that tracking cookie, you should see that it is a low risk threat. If you click on "Tracking cookie" you should get risk properties, with two tabs, one is Risk Impact and the other Details. If you click on details it tells you exactly what is the tracking cookie found. Sorry this is based on version 2, I do not have version 1 loaded.

If you set up the settings as above, you should not have to worry, and Norton will fix the tracking cookies for you.

It is weird becaue “automatically remove” is checked, but it shows me the screen about the “manual fixes” every time.

Should it show this screen everytime there is a tracking cookie, even if “automatically remove” is checked?

This must be only in version 2.

But when I click on the option “Rescan” on the “manual repairs” screen, then it says the cookie has been sucessfully removed, but when I go back on the internet it shows the same screen, so I guess it needs to remove another cookie.

I thought that maybe it was an issue with the settings because before they were changed, it would remove tracking cookies without showing the “manual fixes” screen.

Thanks for your help.  Norton said the only way they would answer these questions was by charging me a consulting fee.
