Manual Live Update-Large Download

I have Vista 32 bit OS on my notebook.  Runs NIS 2011, version 18.5.0.125.  Ran a manual live update this evening and came up with a 93MB download.  Anybody know what this is all about?

Hi Judy46,

Sounds like a complete virus definitions file download.  These large inclusive downloads do not happen often, but on rare occasions LiveUpdate will replace the full file in this way.

Thanks!  I'll give it another chance.  I've never seen this behavior before in about 12 years of using Norton product.  This is bigger than Service Pack 1!

HI Judy46,

If for any reason a live update failed to get applied for some reason, Norton will revert to a full definition download the next time around.

Not saying this happened but it is one possibility. You could check History and then select Live Update from the drop down list and see if there are any failures indicated for a live update session preceeding the time of the full definition download.

Best wishes.

Allen

Checked history and it says updates applied 8:09 PM.  Eight updates--all successful.  Full protection.

The large update showed up at 9:33 PM.  I cancelled this as well as the one at 10:17 PM.

Just tried another manual Live Update, and it put two updates on.  Has latest protection updates.

Could this be just a case of "this is a computer, and computers do strange things"?

HI Judy46,

Yes it could. :smileywink:

As SendOfJive mentioned earlier, this happens on rare occasions. Nothing to be concerned about unless it happens frequently.

Best wishes.

Everything seems to be okay today.

Many thanks to you and Send of Jive!
