I know there is a Norton Removal Tool for NIS 2008, but are there any manual removal/uninstallation instructions posted or available?
I have heard that the Removal Tool leaves remnants in the registry and in folders.
Could you please provide some more info on your OS?
Every program you ever install leave remnants in your system after being uninstalled. If the NRT completed successfully there is nothing left that can interfere with anything.
If you really want to remove the remnants you can check the following for Symantec/Norton folders to remove (I don't know what OS you use, this is for XP). Not all of these locations will contain remnants, it depends on what program(s) you had installed and how you got them. Please note that this will most likely remove any product keys stored in your system. I recommend that you are familiar with Windows before trying this.
In folders.
C:\Program Files\
C:\Program Files\Common Files\
C:\Documents and Settings\%userprofile%\My Documents\
C:\Documents and Settings\%userprofile%\Application Data\
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\
Registry.
HKLM\Software
HKCU\Software
The registry might have more places where Symantec/Norton can be found but I really do not recommend messing around with the registry since it is really not needed and a mistake in there can have horrible consequences for you.
