Norton version: 25.8.10387 (versie 25.8.10387.947)
OS: Microsoft Windows 11 Home – Version 10.0.22631 Build 22631
I chatted for quite a while with support but that person refuses to acknowledge that there is a problem/bug. I installed a completely new pc this week. New Windows and new Norton installation. The Norton account I used is an older account that is also installed on 4 other computers.
Somehow the cloud backup is willing to back up folders and files that are created by programs, for instance those in the Documents folder. But if I manually create a folder and place files in that folder, Norton refuses to add it to the backup. It says that it has added an item, but it doesn’t show up anywhere. It doesn’t matter where I place that folder, it just doesn’t work.
This means that the cloud backup function has become useless. I have no reason to back up system folders. It’s my own files that need protecting.
I have tried everything I can think off, except reinstall Windows itself (and I’m not going to do that.)
A couple of screenshots to show the problem. I now notice that it also didn’t back up the “modified office templates” but that folder is empty. But the Example_folder isn’t empty. Exclusion of non common files is off.
@Sander74 I noted on your first screenshot where you are asked to sign into your Norton account, per the top right corner. Have you do so and retested? Thanks.

Yes, I’ve done that about 10 times and every time it keeps coming back. It wants me to install password control which I don’t want to do.
It gets even weirder… I was now able to back up a folder that was created yesterday on the new pc. That foldername is the same as the one on my old computer, which was also stored in the cloud back up. But the new testfolder I created yesterday still isn’t added to the back up.
Have you tested doing a “local backup” to see if there are different results? Norton has been struggling with backup to cloud and local backup for quite some time.

No, I hadn’t tried that yet until now, but that suffers from the same problem. Some files do go into the back up but others don’t. It’s weird… I also looked at the authorization on the folders but they’re all the same. So, that’s not it either.
It might be time to start looking at other cloud back up vendors.
May I suggest Macrium Reflect to utilize until these issues are corrected? I use it personally, its easy to install, easy to use. Does incremental backup and complete recoverable images as well.
