Mapped Network Drives - Dropping out

Hi,

I have a client who has around 10x Norton Internet Security 2012 installs on computers with Windows 7 Professional.

They are an accounting firm who use MYOB and Handisoft files which reside on Mapped network drives on a data server. After installing Norton Internet Security on each of the computers each of the users are complaining about error's saying cannot connect to network drive which usually occur after the user has been away from their desk for 5 - 10mins. The dropouts happen usually ones or twice a day.

During this time Norton says idle time scans complete and the client loses their connection to the mapped drive and has to close down the application and start again (Handisoft is an accounting application that needs a persistent connection to the database).

Thinking it was the network drive being scanned I turned off network drive scan as one of the options and also added the network drive to a list of excluded drives.

This did not fix anything as the dropouts continued to happen, to prove that it is Norton and not an underlying network issue I uninstalled NIS from one of the computers and loaded up a free antivirus software, the computer in question stopped having dropouts and all is working well. The client still has 10 licenses for NIS2012 and I really want to use them and not waste them but how shall I go about tackling this issue?

Thanks
