Hi NewN1SUser,
Yes 18.6.0.29 is the latest version of NIS. I believe you probably got McAfee Security Scan bundled with some other software you downloaded. It is not necessary to have this along with NIS. I would recommend that you uninstall McAfee Security Scan and run the McAfee removal tool just to make sure it is gone.
Please see the following thread:
The free version of MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware are good choices if you want on-demand scanners to supplement NIS. Again, just be sure to get the free version only.
Hope this helps.
Best wishes.
Allen
Hi Allen and thanks for your reply.
No, it was a separate download. I just wanted to test it. And what a test!
First, in the Virus and Spyware Protection section it says that NIS is out of date, then in the Firewall Protection section NIS is up to date and working properly.
But there's more! The McAfee Web Protection section is on green light which means that McAfee SiteAdvisor is also up to date and working properly. Not entirely true. In Firefox 5 and 6 "SiteAdvisor has been disabled due to security or stability issues". And I'm using Firefox everywhere. So, for me, McAfee Web Protection is... not.
OK! Enough said! I'll try MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware too.
Thanks!
HI NewN1SUser,
Please be sure to uninstall any McAfee security software you have on your computer. And then run the McAfee removal tool as I mentineod earlier.
Best wishes.
Allen
Hello
Then you can also check for any left over folders even after running the removal tool as Allen suggests. Thanks.
HI NewN1SUser,
I just came back to view your image - it had to be approved by a moderator first before anyone can see it.
I have to say, that actually does look like a Marketing thing from McAfee IMHO. SendOfJive mentioned this in the thread I referenced earlier and I have to say I agree after seeing the image.
In either case, rest assured your NIS is up to date.
Best wishes.
Allen
So? Was it approved?
Anyway, I hope there will be no more problems with my NIS copy cos I don't want your help anymore.

HI NewN1SUser,
Was what approved? The image you posted when you started this thread? If so I already commented on that.
There was no problems with your NIS, just McAfee giving you improper information. And I explained how to uninstall it and run McAfee's removal tool.
Best wishes.

As was said in Court during the Profumo trial when an "Escort" was asked why a witness had said something defensively ...
"They would, wouldn't they?"
What do you expect McAfee to say about Norton?
Of course here we tell the trurth .....
Hi NewN1SUser,
Norton Internet Security Online is an offering from NetZero. Is that what you have installed? When you look in WIndows Add/Remove Programs, what Norton product(s) do you see listed?
Hello New1SUser
Norton Internet Security Online is also offered by Qwest which is Century Link now. This might be why the user is saying she doesn't want help any more. From the screen shot, it looks like Norton Internet Security Online is the product installed and not NIS 2011 as we know it or else this McAfee program is just a marketing ploy. If it is from Century Link, it would look like this from Century Link.

Can you please provide a screen shot of the main first page of your Norton product which is involved in this thread so that we can see exactly what program is installed? Thanks.

For purposes of determining the validity of a message from McAfee about the software being out of date, I don't think it matters which ISP is providing the Norton software. Version 18.6.0.29 is still the latest version whether the OP has the regular NIS or one of the ISP provided ones.

In the previous post, SOJ was asking about Net Zero and if it was from that. So I was asking if it was from Century Link and if it was, that may be the reason why she said she didn't want help from here any more. The version from Century Link may be entirely different from our NIS 2011 even if it is the same version number and may be the reason for the program saying it was out of date. If it is from an ISP, she may now be getting help from the ISP. It may be a different arrangement than we have with Comcast and Norton.
Question: When installing Qwest over McAfee product, did Qwest Norton product ask to uninstall McAfee?
