I have a message on this below, but for clarity, I am going to treat it as a new problem.
Windows 7.
I used to have one harddrive; with Windows/programs on C:, and data on D: partitions, as well as a 100mb systems partition.
6 weeks ago I bought a SSD and moved C: and the Systems partition to it.
I did daily image backups on Ghost.
Thursday I did a firmware upgrade on the SSD. It failed and the SSD became unusable.
I tried to restore my last backup to the old hardrive, but it said my last backup was 6 weeks ago (before the SSD). I dug around and found the recent backups, but it gave me a EOBB00A7 error, "The operation is not supported on disk groups of this type".
I then tried the 6 week old backup and it worked fine; but was obviously 6 weeks old. (my data was current because it was on the hardrive and wasn't damaged.)
I then tried the current backup again, with the old backup in place. It seemed to work, but on boot up it asked me if I wanted:
Window 7
Windows Vista/Windows Server 2000/Windows 7
If I chose the first one I got my 6 week old system.
If I chose the second one I got my current system:
It actually seemed to work properly, but seemed like a disaster waiting to happen; plus I didn't want it to ask me which system every time I turned the machine on. I tried deleting HP (C:), but then it wouldn't boot at all.
So, I went back to the first restore (the single 6 week old backup).
Then I went into Ghost and tried to restore the new programs to the C:, but got the same error message I got originally.
I tried deleting the C: and restoring to that space, but got the same error message.
There is an option to restore as original (or something like that, one of the things you can check at the bottom...), so I tried unchecking that block.
When I did that, I was able to write the current programs over the 6 week old system, but it wouldn't boot; it gave a blue screen with an error message, but went away before I could read it and then rebooted. Over and over again.
I figure the problem is that I got the current backup from the SSD and am trying to restore it to the hardrive; and for some reason it doesn't like that.
Is there a way to get my current programs to work as C:?
When I had both systems loaded I was able to pull my bookmarks off the current system so I have those; there are the only data that was on the programs directory. But there is software I loaded in the last 6 weeks that I can't get back.
