Yesterday was a victim of the virus whereby your computer is locked with a page purporting to be from the Metropolitan Police saying illegal activity detected and computer locked until you pay a 'fine' of £100 pounds. This same screen came up at each restart and blocked any use of the computer. Was able though to restart in safe mode and carry out a system restore to a previous date which seems to have done the trick and got computer working again. However just wondered if this was enough as its seems this virus was able to establish itself even though Norton Internet Security 2012 was running and picked up nothing.
Interestingly after system restore I was not able to open NIS 2012 so maybe the virus disabled this as well.Have now been in live chat with Norton about not being able to operate NIS and they tried to remotely fix it but were unable to gain connection. They did however direct me to download site for NIS 2013 which is installed and appears to be working normally (from task tray at least as their is no desktop icon).
So basicaly how can I be sure System Restore is enough to remove the virus if NIS is not able to detect it,my confidence in NIS has taken a bit of a knock! or should I go more drastic and do a full reboot back to factory settings and start again?
