Microsoft is ditching its Edge browser on Windows 10 in favor of a Chromium based replacement. Good news for the end user which is much over due.

Agreed.
Flo explains,
"Will this mean the end of IE 11?"
Probably. But, hopefully not, at least as far as i'm concerned.

Hello
Supposedly, all of Chromes extensions will work on Edge. Edge also will be moving to Win 7 and 8's. Will this mean the end of I E 11 will be closer?
Have a Good Night and
Thanks.
The idea and concept sounds good on its face. From another perspective, it will only enable Google to further monopolize the internet. Google does indeed harvest your data, don't be fooled with their misleading PR nonsense.
Cheers
You’ve probably heard Microsoft will base its Edge browser on Chromium, the open-source project that forms the basis for Google Chrome. That won’t just make Edge better—Microsoft contributing to Chromium means Microsoft’s efforts will make Chrome better, too.

According to the piece on Thurrott:
“Redmond says the changes to Microsoft Edge will all be “under the hood” and that users shouldn’t see a major change in the browser itself…”
So, if i’m to understand that correctly, they are not bringing actual Google Chrome onto Windows 10, rather, the tech behind Chrome will eventually power Edge? I don’t know…. i still don’t like this. Even if Edge supposedly has a better engine, the structure of it still leaves much to be desired. Tasks that are so simple to navigate in IE (like adjusting settings) has become undeniably convoluted in Edge, with options off to the side that are NOT readily visible. Even adding a ‘favourite’ is not as straightforward. They have made it more like adjusting settings in a ‘smart phone’ which i absolutely abhor… Couple this with the unethicality of Google, suffice it to say, i am definitely not liking this news….
Thank you for the update @ _bjm, however, i think you will understand why i will not upvote that post.

The new browser will also be available for MAC, and older windows versions as well.

I don't know why Microsoft ever moved away from IE - - Edge, organizationally, is such a trainwreck. However, if they do decide to pay homage to Google, looks like i will need to look into FireFox, lest we so quickly forget this transgression:
