I just bought a new HP pc running windows 11. Although I have never used the cloud, I elected OneDrive and now am having second thoughts. I worry about all my data out there. My primary pc use is for music, photos and searches. I do some word and excel spreadsheets. Should I keep it or close it?. Thanks.
Yep. Agreed. After 15gbs you “can purchase” more storage. If I remember right, it defaults to storing photos and videos which will eat up that space in no time. I myself bought an 8tb Western Digital Passport Drive ( or maybe it was 4tb, don’t recall) external drive. And they have all sorts of nifty free software, like security, auto-backup or just plain jane it. Plugs into a USB port. AND if your PC dies or goes into a shop…your data don’t. I had even once installed Norton 360 on it. No problems. I think we as a people need to go back to being more local and get our heads out of the clouds. Before it’s too late and Discover our online BFF is ai.

Disable it, or better yet unlink it from your Microsoft account. I just setup a new Windows 11 laptop today, it asked several times during setup for OneDrive.
Backup your data or image it locally with Macrium Reflect Free Version. https://www.macrium.com/reflectfree
