Microsoft yanks buggy Windows Meltdown/Spectre patches for AMD computers

Microsoft has determined that some AMD chipsets do not conform to the documentation previously provided to Microsoft to develop the Windows operating system mitigations to protect against the chipset vulnerabilities known as Spectre and Meltdown. for info go here https://www.computerworld.com/article/3246188/microsoft-windows/microsoft-yanks-buggy-windows-meltdown-spectre-patches-for-amd-computers.html

Thanks Alf -- all help gladly received.

As I used to provoke my research colleagues by saying:

"A negative answer is the most valuable answer you can get in research"!

But it won't stop me from looking a bit more!

Hi Hugh I did a quick search of your problem and I did not find anything recent most of the info is 2 to 5 years old and does not apply to windows 10 at all   good luck... Alf

Hi Alf

Thanks for the update.

From one of the AskWoody reports:

We have received reports from a few customers of higher system reboots after applying firmware updates. Specifically, these systems are running Intel Broadwell and Haswell CPUs for both client and data center.

must follow up on that soon since, but with my AMD CPU and

From time to time when I am Fast User Switching from Dottie's desktop back to mine (the primary one and with me as Admin) it does a Restart instead of the switch ......

Not too sure how to investigate it. I did try checking Event Viewer in my WIN10FCU that I am in and for some reason it would not populate with anything but the Folder names in the left column.....

More at the weekend, hopefully, and all contributions gratefully received.

PS I see a couple of ASUS Driver updates that are more recent than my Driver version 15.200.1046.0 but I did not spot any BIOS or other updates for Windows 10 32 bit which is what I have.

Hi Hugh and Jim  just ran windows update on my windows 7 AMD CPU desktop  and received  2 updates 1 for net frame work all versions and kb 4056894 security roll up. A restart is required. Note you may want to install kb 4056894 first as the net frame work update install takes a while.  For more info go here   https://www.askwoody.com/

Hi Jim Thanks for the info. ALF60

Here is AMD update on this.

https://www.amd.com/en/corporate/speculative-execution?sf178974629=1

There have also been questions about GPU architectures. AMD Radeon GPU architectures do not use speculative execution and thus are not susceptible to these threats.

Jim cool

Thanks Alf

I've not seen any signs of problems with my machine touch wood ....

Hi Hugh On my desk top with a AMD cpu 1 update for net frame work, On my laptop with a intel cpu 4 updates 2 for net frame work 1 for adobe flash player and 1 security roll up for windows 8.1. With Microsoft not knowing what they are doing we all need a bit of good luck. Just found this   https://www.askwoody.com/

Nothing tells you what to do if you have AMD CPU but no crashes yet and have received the MS patches -- you'd think they'd identify the CPUs.
