Minder doesn't log kid out when time is up - gets stuck!

I use Safety Minder (free version) on 2 machines.  Works well on the Win7 machine but have a problem on the WinXP machine since my son has starts playing Steam/Minecraft on it.  My son is able to play Minecraft indefinitely, despite Safety Minder, completely defeating the object!  Please help!

What seems to happen is this.  When the time runs out, Safety Minder correctly says time is up and trys to stop the session/switch user.  But Windows comes up with an error message about "CCSCVHST.exe" saying - do you want to force the process to stop or wait.  My son has discovered that if you simply move the warning box to the very bottom of the screen and ignore it, he can carry on playing indefinitely and Safety Minder can't do anything about it.  This drives me crazy!

I'm no expert, but I think CCSVCHST is one of those Windows processes that it runs in the backround and you can't uninstall or get rid of!  Generally, Safety Minder works fine at limiting time when the kids use other applications on the WinXP machine.

Has anyone else had a problem like this?  Any solutions please?

Hi Jamesgarside,

Please check the version of the safety minder. Latest safety minder version is 2.2.0.28. If you are running old version, please update to the latest version.

If you are still seeing this issue, Could you please give us more clues like..

1. How frequently are you observing this struck?

     a. On every system shutdown

     b. only when time is up

2. Any special softwares present in your system.

Thanks,

Ashok

Hi Ashok - thanks for replying.

I checked the version and we are running 2.2.0.28 - so the latest version of Safety Minder.

We see this problem only when time is up for the user (- b in you question).  I will try to get you a screen shot when I see it next.

It is as if Safety Minder is trying to do the right thing (i.e. log the user off), but can't close ccsvchst.exe.  Windows then prompts the user to force a close or wait.  If the user ignores the Windows prompt, Safety Minder then doesn't do anything - therefore allowing the user to carry on playing while the Windows warning message is left unattended almost out of sight at the bottom of the screen!

James.

Thanks James!

We are trying to reproduce this defect. WIll get back to you as soon as possible.

Thanks,
