Missed trojan by Norton 360

I have a Synology DS220+ to which I run a local backup of my Windows 11 tower. When I check the Antivirus Essential log, it shows 2 detections which are quarantined on the NAS: Win.Trojan.Autoit-73 and Win.Trojan.Generic-9907816-0. What’s interesting is that an internet search comes back with limited hits. I also ran an on-demand scan on that folder with Norton, and it showed no problems.

Um, is Antivirus Essential a Norton product??

How are you baking up to the NAS? Using Norton 360 Backup feature or another app? If Norton, the backups are encrypted and could not be scanned by 360.

dont now dont think norton 360 can do it i think you need a other program but not sure

No. It’s a program on my NAS.

I am using Norton Backup. If Norton can’t scan the files, how is Antivirus Essentials on the NAS finding the infections?

On conducting another search regarding AV Essentials, it’s based on ClamAV, which has given other users false positives. Some have indicated that various Windows files will trigger the alert. For now, I am going to ignore the logs. Thanks.

The OP has add-on software the Synology has available which is compatible with the OS running on the NAS. Mine offers the same types which I do not use. Antivirus Essential - Add-on Packages | Synology Inc.

You may want to try the scenario below to scan your NAS. No guarantees that it will work since I have not tested this scenario myself:

Antivirus Essentials is detecting the viruses in the absence of Norton being able to scan the NAS. The main reasons Norton cannot scan a networked NAS is due to the permissions Windows has built in to protect a network. I would consult with Synology support regarding next steps since that software is proprietary on their side.
