Hi Brown,
First of all thank you very much for your patience. We will definately get the issue sorted out.
If you are using internet explorer then click on tools>manage add ons> enable or disable add ons. You will get this box
Check for norton and change the status to enable if it is disabled.
Then close this box and internet explorer and open it again and check.
If you are youing firefox then go to tools>manage add ons> and check the norton toolbar and identity safe features and close the box and check if the toolbar is back.
If eben this dosen't work then please write here and we will check what next can be done..
Thank you very much
Hi,
Can you please provide us more information on the issue you are facing:-
1) Please Norton 360 -> Click "Settings" link -> Click "Identity Protection" link and check whether "Identity Safe" is TRUNED OFF?
If its turned off then please turn it ON back and restart the browser.
2) If you are using 64-BIT OS, then please launch IE from C:\Program Files(x86)\Internet Explorer since Norton ToolBar is not supported in IE64 Bit.
3) Check whether Norton ToolBar is enabled in your browser. Open "Tools" -> "Manage Add-Ons" if Norton ToolBar is shown disabled then please enable it back. If you are not able to enable Norton ToolBar then please run liveupdate repeatedly until you get all the latest updates available.
4) Open IE -> Click "Tools" -> "Options" -> Click "Advanced" and check whether "Enable third-party browser extensions" check box is checked, If not please check it back.
Thank you for the response. The Norton applications are not shown in the "manage add on", so they cannot be enabled or disabled. They worked fine yesterday and for the last 11 months. I don't understand what happened
Ken
Thanks, checked as follows:
1. Identity safe "on"
2. Followed instructions, but not sure what to click on.
3. No Norton shown here. Worked fine yesterday?
4. Box was checked.
Hi,
2) Open C:\Program Files(X86)\Internet Explorer\ folder and launch "iexplore.exe" from it and check whether Norton ToolBar is enabled under it.
Thanks for the response, I followed your instructions and it worked, but when I restarted to check if all was now OK it was the same as before. I went back and followed your instructions again and of course it worked. I would prefer to not have do this each time I start up and I also noticed that Norton is still not shown as an "add on". So where do we go now?
Thanks,
Hi,
Traverse to C:\Program Files(X86)\Internet Explore\ and right click on "iexplore.exe" and Click "Send To" option and select destination as your Desktop.
Next time onwards launch the desktop shortcut that you had created to launch IE32 Bit which supports Norton ToolBar.
Wow, this isn't a very elegant solution to do this each time. Is this the best that can be done? So please tell me, what happened between last night and this morning when I logged off and then back on. Did Norton issue an update that caused this or do I have other problems? Thanks
@KMBrown,
Try this, Start > Default Programs > Set You Default Programs. Select Firefox and then click Set This Program as Default, then Select Internet Explorer and the click on Set This Program as Default. Reboot.
OPen IE 9 > Help About Internent Explorer, does it displaty 64 bit on the end of the version number? If not then it is the 32 bit version.
To the best of my knowledge you can not set the 64 bit IE9 as the Default Browser. I have created a desktop shoprtcut for the 64 bit version of IE9 as viveksu suggested doing for the 32 bit version.
Hey Yank, thanks for the info. I'll look into it. So, am I to presume that my problem is not with my computer or a bug or something I may have inadvertently done and is as a result of something Norton has done between yesterday and today. I have not received an answer from them, as I asked them that and they may not want to admit it.
Canuck
Canuck,
I have no idea where the problem is, nor what caused it. Please think back, is threre anything else that could have been updated (automatically or by a user) that could have caused this behavior? Did you make any changes to IE?
IMHO, if something was changed by Norton and you informed them of your situation and they can duplicate it, they will let you know and if it is on their end they'll tell you and get a fix for it. Unfortunately sometimes that fix can take some time.
Thanks again Yank,
I'm the only user on this machine, other than auto updates for Windows and Norton, I have not added a thing or changed anything.Knowingly! That is why I was asking if it was them. When I logged on this morning everything was as normal except the Norton Tool Bar was missing and gone from the Manage Add Ons. I read a number of the comments on this forum to try to solve it myself and I got the impression this was something that they had done. My intent in asking them was to understand if I had a bigger problem and not lay blame. I have tried to be careful where I go and I don't download anything that Norton does not give me the "Ok" for, so I'm wondering if I should do a System Restore and see if I can get can back before yesterday. Any thoughts?
Canuck
Have you tried what I suggested with the Default Settings? Hvae they in fact produced the IE9 in 32 bit when you rebooted? If they have I would leave well enough alone and see what occurs. Until such time as you try what I suggested I wuld not do a System Restore and I would probably not recommend it after you have tried it. System Restore can do some strange things to Norton programs and also will not work without disabling Norton Tamper Protection.
Try what I suggested with the default settings and let us know what you get.
I followed your recommendations for the Default Settings, did a reboot and checked the version for IE-9 and the last five digits are 16421. There is a 64 in there, is that what you meant?
If the issue is that the IE9 version with the problem was 64-bit, then the cause is likely that the default browser was somehow changed - something that neither Microsoft nor Norton would do . The toolbar is not compatible with 64-bit, so if the browser was inadvertently changed to the 64-bit from the 32-bit (you have both installed), then the toolbar quit working not because of any software issue, but simply because the machine was now running a browser that does not support the toolbar.

This is what the 64 bit IE ABOUT looks like - the number you mention has nothing to do with it.
If your about look like the above one WITHOUT the circled 64 Bit - it is the 32 Bit version.
OK, that was certainly clear and makes sense. Wish I knew how I changed the browser, as I'm ultra careful. So is there a way to turn back the clock as I now have this shortcut on my desktop to take it back to 32 bit each time I start up. If I inadvertently switched it, can I conciously switch it back?
Thanks you guys, I do appreciate your time and patience,
Hey Yank,
Thanks for going to the trouble to circle it. The number I was referring to in my note to the other person is in front of your circle and there is nothing after that? So does that mean by default it is 32 then?
Dam Yank, I just noticed your last sentence after the insert! So it is 32 then. I'm lost, so where does that leave me now. Why do I need this desktop shortcut if I'm already at 32 bit or have I got this all messed up?
