Moderator image confirmation bypass

I found a way to bypass the mandatory moderator confirmation of uploaded images.

a. upload the image to an image uploading website like image shack.

b. copy the direct image link

c. click upload image and select image from another website

d. paste the url where the image is located (direct URL)

e. click insert image

Voila!  Image no longer has to be confirmed before it is viewed!

I'm morally certain that the Mods are not going to appreciate being bypassed, Wiki.

At least we can use this "loop hole" to quickly provide screenshots for "serious" problems without waiting for a moderator for approving our screenshots. :smileywink:

Am I the only one who found this “loophole” or other used it before?

Since the Mods set this ability in place with the specific intent to authorize any inserted images, it behooves us to respect those requirements.

Do you know about this loophole delphinium?

This has been used by others before; they are no longer here.

It's true this feature currently exists.  It also considered a feature and not a 'loophole'.

The short history is we left both options turned on when we migrated from the 'old way' of posting images, to the 'new way' of posting images.

Currently the 'old way' hasn't been abused so we have not disabled it.  We still have a few users that prefer that way because it is what they are used to doing, or perhaps are using a browser that has issues with parts of the image upload workflow.

What happened to them?  Did they get blocked?:smileysurprised:

Then why have each image verified by moderators when it could be easily bypassed?

We have reasons.

In short, when the image originates from this server it is indeed treated differntly than when it is served from another location.

While both options have been left available at the present time, this is always subject to change.

I for one appreciate this ability in the PM section when I want to share private images with friends.Well I suppose Symantec assume we are all adults and are here for the security issues and helping one another not to cause havoc with undue images that have no relation to a computer.

As for waiting till the image is ok'd well I don't know if that can be any faster than it is now.
