Is there a way to actually see what your child is saying on facebook? Is see that they have logged on to facebook but I am unable to see what they are typing. What are you able to bview and not view?

Thanks for your inquires. We would suggest you setup a Facebook account and be a “friend” with your children. This would allow you to get a insight as to what is on their page.
To answer your question. The items on the enhancement list are valuable suggestions and requests from our users. Our management team evaluates and prioritizes them, then they get worked on accordingly.

This is a very very important one. I earlier opened an item about Hyves, a very famous network community in The Netherlands, and my daughter found out I was able to read here MSN live messenger chats, and she completely switched to other network communities. Norton Safety Minder is not monitoring these online chats, unfortunately, so it misses its goal for that.

Hi There I am posting to day to ask if facebook monitoring has been reconsidered in Norton's enhancement list.?
As a young parent I believe it is important to see if the content of what my daughter is posting or chatting about in this day and age. Especially with the amount of time she is glued to it.
I feel that this should be top of the enhancements list.
Children nowadays are pretty clued up and will be searching for what OnLineFamily monitoring can do.
My kids are probably the same as the Week after I installed it on their laptops they strangely stopped using MSN!
From the logs I see they are using Facebook more than anything else and hence, more than likely Facebook chat.
Come on Norton, any ideas on timescales to monitor Facebook chat?

I have to agree. My kids spend 80% of their web time in Facebook Apps. Although this product is good at controling time and some browsing habits, it is completely worthless for monitoring the web within the facebook world. It's like the old days when AOL ruled the internet. Many users thought AOL WAS the internet and had fulfilling virtual lives in that realm. So it is with Facebook. They get chat, games, personals, entertainment of all types within the site. I can not see any of it reflected here. I like this product, but will move on to another if this condition lasts much longer.
Hoping this will help elevate the urgency of monitoring social network sites. My daughter has made a major switch to facebook over the last few weeks.
I really like the features of this Norton product. It's quite simple and appears to work well. Just need to be able to monitor Facebook ASAP.
There does not appear to be a timeline from Norton for Facebook monitoring.
In the interim I have purchased SpectorPro from Spectorsoft. After I installed it I was amazed by how much activity goes on through Facebook for my two Teenages (I have one of each).
For example there are "adult" themed groups that are accessible on FB, that despite being reported as inappropriate are allowed to remain. They are not hard core porn, but outside of FB would be tagged as adult. In addition, 99% of their instant messaging and e-mail activity is done via FB as it's all possible in the one location.
All this is before you take into account talking via wall messages, etc.
Now, I am not specifically recommending SpectorPro (I don't work for them or have any connections by the way), but I am stating a requirement to use another program whilst Norton sort this out.
Just my thoughts...

Please note that these products are not the type of products that Symantec would produce. Stealth keyloggers to watch your children is not our idea of protecting your child or becoming aware of their online activities.
We have just decided to take a different approach and help parents with this daunting task with Norton Online Family.

I don't disagree, but until Symantec come up with Facebook monitoring, it's an alternative that I will use.
It may help if there as a timeline for this upgrade?

Frankly, roadmap dates for all of those features would be nice to know. I personally would like to know the timeline for monitoring Facebook Chat messages as my highest priority but all the rest would be helpful as well.

Thanks for your feedback about Facebook. Although we intentionally aren't going to provide many features that products like Spector Soft's include (our philosophy is very much based on providing a transparent solution that is visible to the kids being monitored, and encourages discussion between parents and kids), adding functionality like Facebook chat monitoring is very high on our list.
Although we don't have Facebook chat monitoring planned for our summer/fall updates, it's one of the top three items for the next release after that. It's one of the top-requested features that I hear about from parents, so we're trying as hard as we can to fit it in as soon as possible.
We should have a better idea of when we'll roll out FB chat monitoring a little later this year - but I did want to let you know that we've heard your requests and it's very, very high on our list of new features to add :)

"Trust but Verify"
First off, I am a huge fan of the onlinefamily tool, and am very much in alignment with this open vs. stealth monitoring philosophy. My family uses all computers in the open (no computers in bedrooms), and the children talk about what they are doing anytime they are asked. We browse with them from time to time.
For me, it is the coincidental, uninvited contact with adult material that I am most worried about. However, the content monitoring and blocking that can be done across distinct URLs is nonexistent within a authorized URL - that poses this dilemma.
When a child turns 16, we permit them to get a Facebook account.
Even with all the discussion with my children and open atomosphere, I do see that Facebook is essentially open much of the time that homework, research, and productive computer usage is going on. It becomes hard to know for sure what is facebook vs. productive computer usage.
So my 2 cents here in addition to the other requests:
1. Associate time windows for known URLs. Meaning, not just authorize or block a URL and attach time and curfew to a computer login, but to a distinct URL, such as Facebook, gmail, youtube, streaming tv sites, etc.
2. Permit monitoring of sites/activities visited within a URL and allow blocking links based on flagged, dictionary words which are controlled by the parent.
