I am attempting to install Norton 360 v2 on a HP Pavilion computer running Windows Vista Home Premium. I purchased a boxed copy of the software and proceeded to load the CD and install the software. During the install process, a dialog box opened and stated:
The file 'SymLMV.sys' on Symantic Network Security Intermediate Filter Driver is needed. After searching the hard disk and the CD for this file, I finally went to the Symantic website and looked for support. I found the link to "instant" chat, and waited for ~ 30 minutes.
The person answering was reading from a script which was not too helpful. He eventually pointed me to www.symantic.com/nrt and told me to run nrt then click on www.norton.com/n360 and enter the product key, etc.
When I completed the above instructions, I got the same dialog box telling me that SymLMV.sys was missing, etc.
I then went back to the Symantic website and downloaded a trial version of N360v2, ran nrt, installed the trial version and during the install, I got the same dialog box "SymLMV.sys" is missing.
Does anyone have a copy of SymLMV.sys? ,or, know where to find it? ,or, have a work-around? :-(

Are you sure you are running it with Administrator privialges? Do you have any other security software? Redownload a copy of N360.
No need to download or re-run anything else. My problem was solved by 1)locating the missing file and 2) Downloading and placing it in the appropriate folder. Everything is fine now, no thanks to tech support!
How about kicking a little info down to me. My tech support experience has not been quite so rosey. Where did you locate this missing file and what is the "appropriate folder"?
thanks!

Hi,
Regarding the missing file message for SymIMV.sys when installing Norton 360 version 2.0 Premium Edition, I've made several failed attempts to install my 360 v.2.0 since Christmas with glitches from this error or missing file SymIMV.sys. Well I finally located it and here is the path that got me to it on my computer:
>Computer
>C:
>Program Files folder
>Common Files folder
>Symantec Shared folder
>SymNetDrv folder
>Atlast, the missing file.............. SymIMV.sys
As soon as I input this path it popped into gear and finished without any further glitches.
As aggravating as this ordeal was for me, I hope your computer path is similar so that you can follow it. Good Luck!
Step 1 : Open the Task Manager
Step 2 : Click on the tab " Applications "
Step 3 : End the task " Copying files " .
Step 4 : If that does not work you will have to locate the files manually .
For 2009 Versions : Browse to the following folder: Program Files\Norton Internet Security\Engine\{engine version}\SymIM.
For 2008 Versions : Try to locate the file in Symantec Shared / SymNetDrv
