Hello, I am experiencing the fact that all advertisements have disappeared from the usual sites I go to. For instance, my weather site, my email page , news, and other sites that should have ads on them.
This happens with both the latest Firefox and Edge (which I upgraded both a few days ago). I usually use the Privacy Badger addon on both of them. With no problem for a long time. (I allow the sites mentioned to show ads, as long as they are not trackers).
I can't figure out why ads are now not showing up. I have tried disabling Privacy Badger on both browsers, no luck. I also have recently (a couple of days ago) did a Live Update of Norton 360 Deluxe, and am wondering if Norton has something to do with this, since it is installed on both browsers. (I always use the Norton VPN, but have not tried turning it off).
Thanks for any ideas on this!
(Thanks Peter)
Here are my last words.. I turn the VPN off, I get ads. Turn it on, I get no ads.
That tells me that the VPN has something to do with the ads. It has never done this before in the 8 months I've been using Norton 360. God bless everyone. I hope this Covid stuff goes away soon.
Hello friends again,
I have looked further into my "no advertisments" situation and found that there is a connection with some VPNs controlling ads. Google it.
From reading online, I read that some VPNs have offered ad blockers. Even my Norton VPN offers a setting called Ad Tracking Blocker.. (Maybe it does only control cookies as said here. But who knows if Norton is experimenting with actual ad blocking).
Mine was set to "off". I switched it to "on" but things remain the same, no ads showing, even with my Privacy Badger off.
I believe in seeing some ads as long as they are not third-parties tracking me. I believe those who run websites have got to make some money to keep online. Or else some day they will be closing down.
Privacy Badger checks for websites that seem to be tracking you and blocks them, but allows ads that are not tracking you. That is good enough for me.
But these websites with no ads showing the last few days still bother me.
Thanks again,
I have now even turned off Privacy Badger and still get no ads. (I kind of like seeing them, instead of blank spaces).
Here is a message I see on my email page where the ad is supposed to be...

Hmm. We’re having trouble finding that site.
We can’t connect to the server at googleads.g.doubleclick.net.
If that address is correct, here are three other things you
can try: Try again later.
Check your network connection.
If you are connected but behind a firewall, check that Firefox has permission to access the Web.

If I shut off the Norton VPN, I get ads. ? About the firewall, doesn't Norton control the settings in the Firewall ?
I am fully online with Firefox and Edge, (can go anywhere)
I will try to get the version number of my Norton Version. I always have trouble doing that. Best Wishes to you.
Edited... I checked my history in Firefox ...I updated Norton 360 to 22.21.6.53 .J also went to some Norton page just now, and it told me I have the current up to date version.
I cannot explain why having the VPN on would stop ads. AFAIK it only blocks Ad Tracker cookies. What version of 360 do you have?
I'm a little surprised that someone is complaining about not getting ads.
Turning off the VPN did help.
Hello Peter,
I turned off the VPN and instantly got ads on my email and weather. (And probably all other sites), but I don't want to run without the VPN.
I only have the latest Edge and Latest Firefox 91.0.2. These other "ad blockers" have been disabled for probably eight months. I tried all, and decided to go with Privacy Badger. They are Adblock Plus, Disconnect, Ublock Origin, I also tried YesScript 2 eight months ago. None of these have been connected for eight months.
I did do a manual update on Norton two or three days ago and something was installed. I have never had to turn off VPN except for certain financial sites. Norton VPN and Privacy Badger worked perfectly together for eight months now.
Try turning off the VPN to see if it is making a difference. There are no ad blocking features in Norton 360.
What other browser extension do your have on both browsers? Try disabling all, and slowly adding them back to see if one of them makes a difference.
