Move HDD from old machine to a folder on new machine

I have Ghost 12 on my old machine and 15 on my new machines.  I back both up using the product.  I need to give my old machine back but would like to make sure I have a copy of EVERYTHING on the old machines.

I am hoping I could take my G12 backup from my old machines and restore all the files to a directory on my new machine so I can access them if I need them.

I typically use a full restore when my computer dies.  I see there is a restore ALL files option and restore to desktop folder option that look like it might be what I need to keep a record of everything on the old machines on the new machine.  (btw the new machine has a huge HDD so storage of two images is not a problem).

Second concern is if I understand the restore to desktop option will work, I still have concerns if the desktop directory will have the files in their original directories so I can find them or if they will just be a long list of all 2000 files.  Second concern is is Ghost 10 and 12 back ups restorable from Ghost 15 I have on my new machines?  I have always kept with the same version to back up and restore.

I agree with Brian.

The HUGE advantage of doing it that way is that you will preserve the directory structure of all the files and folders.

You will be able to serch, view, and copy the files and folders out of the mounted image just like they are now on the old system.

Restoring a file and folder backup on another system like you were planning will leave you with thousands of files in a single desktop directory without any folder and subfolder structure.
