Hi, I searched the forums but couldn't find this question (I apologize if I missed it somewhere).
Yesterday morning I noticed my Norton AV was not working, so because I am a Comcast subscriber, I went to Comcast and downloaded/installed the updated version. (I removed all existing Norton files beforehand.) After successful download/install, I find that I am getting this error whenever I try to open Facebook or other pages that I suspect need the java plug-in or requires Adobe Flash:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugin-container.exe
R6030
- CRT not initialized
This also happens when I use IE and Chrome. After searching online most of yesterday and this morning, it seems there is a compatibility issue between the newest update of Comcast's Norton Security Suite and Java/Flash player. I have updated all the programs and plug-ins, and disabled the Norton firewall and AV, still get the same error. I had NO issues like this before installing the updated Security Suite. I would uninstall and reinstall an older version of NSS from Comcast but I can't seem to find where to do that.
I saw somewhere someone talking about a patch that is not available yet, but I couldn't tell you where. Any suggestions?
Thanks.
Thanks for the reply.
When I originally uninstalled NSS, I did use the Norton Removal Tool. I am going to try it again tonight, as this issue is preventing me from being able to access other pages as well, and I will report back. I appreciate you trying to help me out.
(By the way, I got the same error when I clicked on the link in the post you referred to, for a previous version...)
SO FRUSTRATING!
No change, after uninstalling/reinstalling NSS, doing updates all night, defrag the computer, running scans, I still get that same error. Clearly it's an NSS issue, though, because after I uninstalled, I checked the various pages that were crashing and I had no issue. I guess my only option is to just completely uninstall Norton and use a different antivirus program.
Do you now or have you ever had another security program on your computer? If so, you will have to remove it with the removal tool for that program.
Once upon a time I had McAfee. Thanks, I will try it.
I will say this morning I updated the Virtual C (or whatever it's called) to the most recent version. And it seems this happens mostly on Firefox.
Removed all McAfee files.
Hi jahmom64
Did you use the Mcafee removal tool?
Have you restarted your computer and checked to see if the problem has gone?

Sorry, meant to say that....
Yes, I used the McAfee Removal Tool and, unfortunately, yes, I am still getting the error.
Hi jahmom64
You may have corrupt windows files that may be able to be repaired by performing a sfc scan and if that fails to sort the problem out then the next option is repair Windows.
Before doing the below you might like to backup the personal data and backup or export in both formats your identity safe and any other users identity safe if it is used.
How do I do a sfc scan
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833
Repair windows, is accessed by booting into safe mode (see help and support from the start menu). Disconnect the internet before booting into safe mode as Norton appears to be disabled in safe mode only allowing a full scan.
Select repair windows and follow the prompts, this process should not damage your current version of windows it should just repair it. When it has finished check for windows updates and then recheck for windows updates until there are no more updates.
