I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right section or whether it's even a topic that I should raise here, but here goes as I'm interested in your views!
One of the tools that I use scans my PCs and then tells me if any of the programs are Insecure/Vulnerable (newer version needed) or End-of-Life (Unsupported by Vendor). I won't mention the product as I don't want to get involved in all the bashing that's going on in their forum at the minute but some of you will know the one I'm referring to - you've spotted "dual" posts before.
There is a huge row there about Microsoft last week declaring MSMXL v4 as end of LIfe, announcing that they will continue to support it (until April . . . . 2014!).
The row is over advice given that users should uninstall v4. But they also go on to say that as there may be programs that rely on v4, if they uninstall v4 those programs won't work any more. "Remove at your own risk" is poor advice i.m.h.o.
What are you doing? Are you removing it? Leaving it? Don't know about it?
