The file C:\Program Files (x86)\MSN Games\Monopoly\monopolypb.exe was falsely detected as a Trojan horse.

I have the same problem. Symantec AV deletes the file monopolypb.exe and if I attempt to reinstall the program from the original distribution it prevents monopolypb.exe from installing, breaking the game. The game is from MSN games and I have had it for almost a year with no problems until last night when I tried to play it. Sure looks like a false positive to me.

I got around thes by going in to history and restoring the "threat", shutting down Auto Protect, and then going in to exceptions and adding the file in question to the auto-protect exceptions.  Then re-enable auto protect.

This wil stop the detection.

The really anoying part is that Norton should have a option right from the log to restore and exclude in one step.  And their False Positive form is clearly aimed at vendors and not end users.

I also don't like that unlike previous versions I cant't get Norton to ask me what to do, unless the threat is marked as low Risk.  When will vendors learn that we want control of our own machines.

It is not malware.  I don’t suspect it is.  I know it is not.  I have had the game for over a year and Norton is just now claiming it is a trojan.  I can accept that there will sometmes be false positives, but it is inexcuseable to male me jump throug hoops to restore and exclude the “threat”.  This should be a simple atomic operation available from either the log or from quarantine.

This is indeed the way to solve it. Problem with these kind of programs is that they behave like malware

I can't complete the report form because I can't provide one of the required fields - url to download software from. I suggest you just contact Oberon Media and/or MSN. Or should I contact Microsoft and let them know that your software is incorrectly marking one of their products as a trojan horse?

Please don't respond to our messages with a canned reply. We care enough about the product to take time in isolating and reporting errors to your organization.

Hi Alexmstevens,

My response was not intended to be canned; sorry about that. I was just trying to help you with the link to submit the file, just in case if you could not figure it out.

Cheers,

S’ OK. I’m just frustrated because I had to except the program file from both scans and autoprotect and I don’t like to do that. I did scan the file with another product and id said everything was just fine. If you can change the form so the download URL is not mandatory I can submit a formal report. Otherwise, you’ll just have to settle for the complaints. Hopefully it will get fixed in a future dictionary update since it was apparently a dictionary update that caused the problem. Alex Stevens

Just a suggestion for that URL:  http://g.msn.com/0ZOGS/MHANGOGS is what the shortcut is on the MSN Games site.

It's probably like some installation procedures won't let you not put in a Company Name so I just put . The software is not intelligent enough to reject it although it rejects a space as well as no entry at all.
