Multiple Computers

I have Norton on 1 computer up for renewal in August. I need to install on another computer immediately and can't wait for renewal.

Do I buy a key from original one for new computer?

Do I purchase a brand new download on new computer and also use that for both? If I do that, what happens on original computer when it's already installed?

Looking for the right recommendations and reasons, thanks.

Is the licence you already have for 1 PC or for 3 PCs -- check your MyNorotnAccount on line and it will tell you how many activations are used and left.

If it's a 3 PC licence, which many on retail sale are, then you can just download the current installation file from a link we can give you, install that and point it at your MyNortonAccount to activate it.

If it's a 1 PC licence then yes you need to get an additional licence(s) which you can do on line (expensive) or often cheaply throught the retail market with multiple rebates.

Given that your existing licence is going to expire in August your best bet, assuming you have Norton  Internet Security and that you are in the USA, is to grab the special offer in the weekend flyer of one of the usual High Street computer stores where there is a bundle of NIS 2011 3:PC with Norotn Utilies 15 for a net net of $9.99 !!!!! That's after several rebates including a mail in upgraders rebate that you should be entitled to and other discounts

That's just until Saturday ..... Even if you don't use Norton Utilities it is a good price.

If you get that you can install on your new machine and I suggest you use a download link we can give you since that file will be very much more uptodate than the disk is.

IMPORTANT -- if your new machine comes with any security software other than the exact version you are going to install you  must remove it first using the normal Windows Remove Programs plus a special tool you can get from most sucurity program web sites -- we can give you the link.

So what we need to know to help you with the details is as below plus the make and version of any security program on the new PC.

To get you the best advice, would you give us some more information about your system:

What version of Windows are you using including Service Packs and whether 32 bit or 64 bit as well as the Name and Version ID of the Norton product that you are using -- Help or Support / About is where that is, in the format of nn.nn.nn.nnn

Finally (!) having installed and activated on the new PC you will have started the clock ticking on the subscription so you might as well apply the same KEY to the one that ends in August because if you wait until August to do it it will still expire on the anniversary of the first activation .... that's the way multiple PC licences work.

Hello,

If you check your subscription through Norton Account you can find out if your key is for 3 PC's or 1 PC.  If your key covers 3 PCs, simply install the Norton product on your new machine and activate with the key from the original machine.

If your key only covers one PC, it may be advantageous to buy a new, 3PC key for your new machine.  When your subscription expires on your original machine, you can re-activate the Norton product with the key you bought for your new machine and thus be protected on both machines by the same key.

Hi mettie,

Be aware though that the clock on the subscription starts the day you enter that key on the first computer. In other words if you do have to purchase a new 3 PC key and use that to activate Norton on your second computer the subscription starts on that day. When you later use that key on your existing computer, it will pick up the remaining subscription days from the day of first activation on the second computer. E.g., your subscription on both computers will expire on the same day.

So if you end up doing this, you might as well enter the new key on both computers at the same time.

As Amarys_Mayes pointed out you should check your Norton Account to confirm if you have any remaining activations on your current KEY/subscription.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.
