Multiple Definition files, why and can they be safely deleted?

I have 3 large (over 100MB) virscan.dat files all named the same (VirScan7.dat) but slightly different sizes

  • C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\VirusDefs\20110107.003 - date stamp 1/07/2011
  • C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\VirusDefs\20110109.003 - date stamp 1/09/2011
  • C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\VirusDefs\BinHub - date stamp 12/17/201

I ran a live update hoping something would be purged, but no go. 

Can I safely delete the 1/7 def file?  Can I delete the \BinHub file?

330 mb for three full def files is a bit excessive especially on a DC.
