I just updated my Norton Family Safety a day ago & now I'm getting several icons that are spawning in my system tray. It starts with the one, then gradually it multiplies. I am now up to SIX. I cannot mouse over them to get rid of them & I don't know what process to end when I press Cntrl+Alt+Del. I am ready to uninstall this thing if I can't get this to operate properly. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
I've just started getting the multiple Norton Family pawprint icons in my system tray. They keep increasing in number as time goes on. I've tried rebooting but they keep coming back. I assume this is bad, so I'm not happy about it. The PC is running XP SP3 (fully updated). I have tried running Norton Liveupdate and restarting but it has not fixed the issue. I recently made some changes to my Norton Family account as two of the kids now have Windows 7 laptops. They still have their accounts on the XP PC for the time being. I have read this post: http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Family/Multiple-Safety-Minder-icons-in-system-tray/m-p/585882 but it doesn't make much sense to me as I don't know much about domains, so I assume I'm not using them. All the kid's computers connect wirelessly on the same SSID to a wireless router that is connected to the internet. The router has AP isolation enabled.
Does anyone from Norton have any idea what might be causing the multiple icons problem and if so, is there anything I can do that will fix it? Alternatively, when will a solution be forthcoming via liveupdate?

This started on both of my computers running norton family. One is XP and one is windows 7. Obvioiusly not a computer or a system problem. Why is there no answer from norton on this one yet?
It's some days that I also experiece multiple icons in system tray, now are three but can reach six and even more...
What the hell is going on?
I run XP SP3 updated.
When is this bug going to be fixed?
No news from Symantec yet? On the XP PC that had the multiple pawprint icons, uninstalling then re-installing Norton Online Family seems to have done the trick. A possible fix perhaps? Another kid's Windows 7 PC has developed the same multiple icon problem so I am trying the uninstall - re-install "fix" on that. The re-install has not been completed as the Norton Online Family account login isn't working, so I'm chewing on the leather strap yet again. Here's the Norton account login response: >>> Sorry, An error has occurred on the server. Please, try your request again later. An error has occurred with our service, your data is safe, but for your protection and to prevent any possible loss of data your request was halted. The error has been logged and reported and we will look into it shortly <<<
We have the same problem. Bran new windows 7 pro build. Not on a domain. Local user accounts. No fancy configurations or anything. Any confirmation on this as a bug yet from Norton?
Thanks everyone. Katie and I will be reaching out to you to investigate.

Hi Katie... as noted in my email to you, I am having this same problem (at least under my son's profile). The longer he's on, the more icons he gets. Started with one and grew to five the other day.
Same as another poster, this is a brand new Windows 7 build (Ultimate). Not on a domain... local user accounts... only additional software installed is Office '07 and Adobe Reader and Flash. Pretty simple configuration.
Thanks!
I think I've managed to fix the multiple icons issue on my kid's computers. Thanks to KatieQ for your private message. I found that uninstalling and reinstalling Norton Family did the trick, but only after the server outage that prevented logging in to the Norton Family account was fixed a week or so ago. There are instructions in this post from Symantec:
http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Family/Update-from-Norton-Family-Team-Regarding-Recent-Issues/td-p/860462
I am relived that the issue appears to be solved, but such episodes do not bode well for my confidence in Symantec products.
Hi Supermike,
Please uninstall/reinstall Norton Family on the PC to see if it helps. If not, please let me know and I'd like to setup a remote session with you if you prefer.
Thanks,
Katie
Thanks for the reply Katie... I've uninstalled and reinstalled the NF client and re-associated my kid's accounts with the computer. Hopefully this fixes the issues! I'll let you know if it doesn't, for some reason.
I've been having this issue as well. I tried uninstalling Norton Family and it seemed to help temporarily. Unfortunately I am back to having multiple icons in my tray. On one occasion, I had over 20!
Thoughts?
