Hi, all,
I am searching for a solution to a problem I am having with NIS 2006. There are roughly 50 copies now of the VIRSCAN7 file using up roughly 1.75G of my hard drive, which is approaching 20% of its total capacity. There is now not enough free disk space left for further Virus Protection Updates and this is interfering with normal use of my laptop. I would think NIS should be deleting obsolete virus datafiles, but it does not appear to be doing that.
Searching the Internet, I found a recommended solution of upgrading to NIS 2009. However, I am running Windows 2000, which is not included in the NIS2000 list of system requirements.
Is there anything else I can do?
Thanks,
Joe R.
Please check out this thread. Another user with NIS 2006 had a similar issue.
Thanks, Vejdin. That gave me the information I needed. Purging the cache freed up a few meg. But I could not delete the old data files until I actually uninstalled NIS. Once I did that, I could delete the data files, thereby clearing 5.0G of my 11G hard drive.

Great! I just want to note that it is possible to delete data without uninstalling NIS, but you should start Windows in Safe mode.
