I posted once before about this problem, thought I was getting help from an ID named Quads, and he backed out in a wild fury because I accidentally followed another Norton Forum helper's recommendation. Now I'm stuck with the problem still there, and I'd truly appreciate the help of someone with a little bit of patience.
It has been a few weeks, since music and voices started coming from my internal computer speakers. No windows or programs are open on many occaisions when this happens. If I mute the speakers the music or voices stop. If I leave them on, the problem occurs intermittently throughout the day and night. I would leave the speakers off, and go without sound on my computer, but I'm concerned the music and voices are just a symptom of a virus with a much more malicious intent that annoying me.
If someone else (or Quads) will help me, I promise to only follow the directions of the person who takes on the task. I wouldnt have followed someone elses suggestion of a Norton link, if Quads hadnt cut and pasted it into his own reply to me. How was I to know he was bashing someone else, and not giving me a new instruction?
Sorry we're meeting under these circumstances. I can recommend only two solutions. Since Quads has responded - The other is to go to one of the sites listed below and work with only one of their experts. The rule is the same in all cases. You finish with the one that started the process. It is individual and please, no self-help fixes while you wait. They will only complicate the process.
I have to admit when I saw this topic, I felt duty bound to read it. I've never heard of music and voices coming out of nowhere from a computer at rest. Malware, or demonic possession?
Suggest the user try the chat feature for Norton Support first.
BTW, good to see you, Dick. And congratulations on your promotion to Guru. Didn't notice it at first.

Kelly,
The customer support chat line works best for subscription issues. They have some limits on their ability to dig deeply into malware & virus infections. Norton does offer a paid service which specializes in that type of technical assistance. Quads and the experts at the links I posted work for free and if you abide by their rules will stick with you for as long as it takes to get the problems solved.
The jury is still out on the 'promotion' part of the guru status Like all things worthwhile the benefits have their responsibilities. So far I think we are playing well together.
My systems stay malware free - no doubt a good thing - so the only time I hear of malware problems is when friends get hit, or from this forum. Just had never heard of this one, and it sure sounds creepy.
