The autotasks in NIS/NAV 2009 include idle quick scans, idle insight scans, and pulse/automatic updates. These occur normally in the background when the computer is idle. Pulse updates are so quick they often take place during regular computer activities.
How long is your computer actually staying asleep? Did you set it to simply go into sleep mode or did you set a specific time for it to stay in sleep mode? Norton should recognize that your computer is in sleep mode and either stop background processes or go into silent mode (still protecting your computer but no background tasks).
Try manually going into silent mode via the norton settings. Tell norton to enter the mode for lets say an hour and then have your computer go into sleep mode. Let us know if this works or not so we can know if your problem is contributed to a falty install or something else. What norton product are you using? Is it fully updated? Is your computer fully updated?
I'm running Vista, but this fix might also apply to XP.
- Go into Control Panel and select Device Manager.
- Open up Network Adapters.
- Right-click on the name of the adapter (mine is Realtek) and select properties.
- Select the Power Management tab:
- CHECK "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". - UNCHECK "Allow this device to wake the computer".
Click OK.
Again, I'm not sure if this applies to XP, but it's worth a try.
I uchecked the allow this device to bring the computer out of standby and left checked "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" on XP Home.
