My Norton 360 turns off by itself...WHY?

For the past few days I have been getting alerts that my Norton 360 turns off by itself, leaving my laptop unprotected, why is it doing this and how do I make it stop?

Can you please tell us the version you have for N360? Also please tell us your operating system and service pack. I assume that your subscription has not run out. There is a new rogue antivirus program out that seems to go after Norton products and disables them.

 

Please look at this thread for the possible solution. A visit to BleepingComputer is probably necessary to clean this. I have provided the links in that thread.

Please check out that link and see if your symptoms are similar. I think you may have a rogue security program called Defence Center.

I have Norton 360 version 4.0 and my OS is Windows 7.  I ended up uninstalling N360 and reinstalling it, so far no problems.

Please continue to run live update since the latest version is 4.2.0.12. You may need a reboot to get the remaining updates. Please let us know if you have successfully updated to the newest version.  Also please keep an eye on the program to see if it happens again. Thanks.
