My Norton Internet Tool bar is missing from IE 7 after install NIS 2010

I just installed NIS 2010 and can't get the toolbar to show within IE 7.  I have tried the disable and the enable from within IE7 but that still did not work.  I rebooted my computer and that did not work either.

Your assistance will be greately appreciated

Hi alexanderjc and welcome!

When you say "tried the disable and the enable from within IE7", does that mean you have checked that the Norton Toolbar and Symantec add-ons are enabled?

Which security program did you have prior to NIS 2010? Are there any other realtime security programs running?

Also, if you could tell us what operating system you are using, that would be helpful.

Thanks!

Yes the Norton Toolbar is enabled.  After sending the message I upgraded to IE 8 but still have the same issue.  I noticed also in the manage add on section that the Symantec NCO BHO and the Intrusion Prevention does not appear.  They did not appear in IE7 either.

I am using Windows XP and I upgraded from NIS 2009.  Norton 2010 is the only security program that I have installed.

I am having exactly the same problem w/ a different spin. After a near fatal HD loss, I had to reinstall Vista Biz w/SP2 on a new primary partition. My HD remapped but everything else is works w/o prm. Firefox checks out fine. IE8 is where this problem resides. Specs:

The IE8 Add-on panel says:

ENABLED: Norton Tool bar, NCO BHO and Intrusion Prevention

UNAVAILABLE:  Norton Safe Search. Also, the ID safe does not appear.

All of the behavior is reproducible and none of the recommended repairs has worked. The NIS control panel shows all is well.

I'd like to help, but I think we need some more information in order to be of assistance. What caused the data loss on your hard drive? When you say the "HD remapped" what exactly do you mean? Did you restore a backup? You say that you can reproduce the issue, what steps are you following to reproduce it? What have you already tried to fix the problem? Have you tried uninstall reinstall? With or without the Norton Removal Tool?

I know you said you installed to a new primary partition, which would indicate that you are starting from scratch, but the remapped comment is confusing me. I'm concerned that perhaps you use a secondary partition to install your apps to, and you are still using that, which could definitely cause problems if there are files left over from a previous install.

Thanks Blitx.Your thought about pattition-nice catch. Helped. Wrong forum for me. IT person and beta tester of NIS-last few yrs.  Took 5 hours on the phone w/ MS level 3 tech to save HD. Last 8 weeks of backup faled.  Remap was collateral damage. MS and I were down to last-drastic option, but data was saved.  Present- Of 3 accounts on sys,  only Admis toolbar is missing. Registry prm based on remap is my guess. After running Vista RTM, it was a bloated install, but 3 new PCs solved that problem. Win 7 w/ new PC!

BTW-Remap is post-clean install. 2010 was not best NIS V. Over 6 months,  I have had to reinstall 5 x-non-specific failures.  Never had prms w/NIS before but next year will be better.
