Norton secure browser is installed and working but My Norton shows installation failed. I tried re-installing the browser. I tried rebooting and nothing makes the "installation failed" indication go away. Wha is going on?
bjm_:seems I'll need to re-install (Get Help) to clear my "Installation failed"
ran Norton 360 clean install instead

Nigel Aves:The 2nd update did the business.
Thanks
And the masses rejoiced with much celebration!

Nigel Aves:After running Live Update twice (first one required a re-boot), 2nd run passed nothing to download,
I still have the same message: "Installation Failed".
fwiw ~ maybe, try Norton LiveUpdate, again, after awhile.
This patch is ONLY available via LiveUpdate, and is being released in a phased manner. You may need to run LiveUpdate and reboot a few times before your product is completely updated to the latest version.

I still have the same message: "Installation Failed".
robert scardapane:It's a two step process:
1) Run live update to update the product suite.
2) Use Get Help button to direct you to a download of Private Browser (aka secure browser) and re-install it. I fond that you do not not need to uninstall it. Just install it over the existing private browser. Be patient as it imports settings from EDGE which seems to be a slow process (I watched it with resource monitor and it reads lots of files from EDGE).
I now have an open button and "Installation Failed" is gone. I am repeating the process on my laptop right now.

Interesting, on y laptop, the patch fixed the problem without a re-install of private browser. At any rate, the issue is gone now on both my desktop and laptop. Thank you for the fix!

22.24.1.6
"Installation failed" remains
Hi,
Thank you for posting on the Norton Community. We have released a fix for this in our new build: Norton Security 22.24.1.6 for Windows
Please run LiveUpdate until no updates are available, and let us know if this issue still exists. Thank you.
Just a FYI, this morning my laptop now shows he same "Installation Failed" indication as my desktop. Once again, I updated nothing. All I did was power it up from being shutdown. So, two totally machines (both running windows 11) experience the same issue for no reason I can figure. Norton software is the same on both systems including level of secure browser.
It's not a bad browser In fact, I found it works on sites that EDGE does not but I suspect it's because of "extensions". You can sometimes get EDGE and/or CHROME to work with stubborn sites by disabling the extensions you have installed. By the way, some of the Norton extensions cause problems yet strangely their secure browser will work with the same URL.
Yes I am old enough to remember NETSCAPE when it was new/ I think the objective of secure browser is not to compete with other browsers but to supply as secure as possible web browsing.
adding:
Yes, @xjoex
I'll be removing Private Browser, shortly.
Note:
another machine Restart = "Installation failed" remains
Chrome is default, again + another machine Restart = files on my Desktop continue to render Private Browser icon.
"Open with" does not change Private Browser icon.
time to remove Private Browser from my daily rider

I installed Norton Secure Browser when it first came out and found it to be very inadequate and buggy. I uninstalled it and it disappeared from My Norton dashboard and has not made an appearance since. And with so many good browsers available why does Norton need to spend their resources on creating another?
I have also used the Norton Secure Browser embedded in the Norton Password Manager Mobile version and it is also not very user friendly either and I find it to be more of a nuisance and a hindrance so I do not use it there.
And does anyone remember Netscape Navigator from the 90s? The battle between Internet Explorer and Navigator and the court battles with Microsoft embedding IE into Windows? Fun stuff back then.

Nigel Aves:I installed Secure Browser manually as it was not yet in the Norton My Account.
Now that it is in My Account like the above, will not install.
My Account - meaning your Norton account?
Maybe, you mean My Norton dashboard?
Did you uninstall Norton Secure Browser via Apps & features and then run norton_secure_browser_setup.exe from https://us.norton.com/products/norton-secure-browser
Curious, are you using Windows Admin user account?
as I recall...I ran norton_secure_browser_setup.exe. "Installation failed" remained.
robert scardapane:
I am pointing out that there is an issue somewhere [...]The only way I found to get support is via the community forum, chat or phone.
Hoping, Norton takes notice.
We're expecting 22.24.x.x soon. Hoping 22.24.x.x will bring "fix" for you.
Right now I am not looking to clean install anything. I can go down that road if the software really becomes dysfunctional. It's working fine though the dashboard (My Norton) says there is something wrong.
I am pointing out that there is an issue somewhere At the very least, the dashboard (My Norton) should report on the current installation status of your features correctly. Perhaps it only does that if you install the feature through the dashboard. In that case, the use of a "Get Help" button is not particularly "helpful" (pardons for the pun). The button should be "Install" (even if an install failed?).
If there is a better way to report a bug, please let me know. The only way I found to get support is via the community forum, chat or phone.
robert scardapane:1) I am not saying that Norton said anything to you.
2) If you read the thread this is the second time around for me with this error.
1) I thought you were talking to Norton Community when you wrote: " Is Norton telling us that the only way to fix this is to remove it and reinstall the entire suite?"
So, I offered my fwiw $0.02.
2) I was probably cobbling together my reply here when you wrote: "This is at least the second time I have been through this."
I've now read your message here.
Note: Norton Removal Tool removes Norton 360.
Note: If you have Norton Family, you need to uninstall it before you run the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool.
User may employ:
Apps & features => Norton 360 => Uninstall
fwiw ~ my clean install
