My VPN is active yet Some applications still detect my current geolocation

Hello!

I turned on my Norton VPN on my Windows 11 Laptop, and then I tried to get my current location on Google Maps; it showed my exact location, while it should show the location of the VPN server.

Anyone has encountered such an issue and can help?

Thank You.

Hello Fadi. Run a DNS leak test at this site, WITH, your Norton VPN enabled. The Norton VPN is notorious about leaking IPv6 DNS information as well. IF, you do not require or your ISP doesn't require IPv6 disable it.

You can also set your DNS setting in your router to help with DNS leaking and geolocation issues.

Google Knows!!!!!  devil  Check other apps to see if they are working correctly.

Just an FYI. When using a VPN, your system uses the DNS from the VPN server you are connected to. You can test this by setting up DNS settings from a provider using restrictive filtering. Then try to access a site that should be restricted to check that it is blocked. Then start your VPN and you will see you can connect to that site.

There are many factors that determine your location that are unrelated to your VPN.

GPS and cell tower for example are two factors as well as your DNS server. If you are using your ISP DNS servers that might pinpoint your location. Try changing to third party free DNS servers with the VPN on and see if that makes a difference.
