MyWay Search

How to get rid of being redirected to Myway search.

Not a Norton problem, but I trust Norton and feel I would not be directed to download another unfavorable app to get rid of MyWay.

Hi BevStra:

It sounds like you've been infected the MyWay search engine browser hijacker from Mindspark Interactive Network.  It's a PUP (potentially unwanted program) that might have been bundled with a software installer you downloaded from the Internet.

Antivirus programs like Norton will protect you from most high-risk malware like viruses, worms and trojans but many users in this community also run occasional on-demand scans with reputable anti-malware/anti-spyware software like Malwarebytes to look for lower-risk PUPs and PUMs (potentially unwanted modifications) like adware, toolbars and browser hijackers that are sometimes missed by Norton.

I'd suggest you run a manual scan with the free Malwarebytes scanner.  After you install this software just be sure to disable the 14-day trial version of the Premium real-time protection features (Settings | Account | Deactivate Premium Trial - see the support article How-To: Deactivate Trial version in Malwarebytes 3) to avoid possible conflicts with Norton and use Malwarebytes as an on-demand scanner.  Start with a Threat Scan and if nothing is detected then move on to a Custom Scan of your entire hard drive - see the support article How-To: Manually Scan with Malwarebytes 3.  I have Settings | Protection | Potential Threat Protection set to Warn User for both PUPs and PUMs so I'm always notified before any lower-risk threats are removed.

If the browser re-directs persist after your Malwarebytes scan or if you have any concerns that your system is still infected then post in one of the free malware removal forums recommended by delphinium in the thread Malware Removal Forum Recommendations.  A trained malware removal specialists will be assigned to your case and will work with you one-on-one to help you remove any malware or PUPs from your system.  My personal preferences are BleepingComputer and WhatTheTech?.
